QPR get fair play ruling warning 14:24 - Sep 9 with 13749 viewsbosh67

Football League Chief Executive Shaun Harvey has warned QPR they will take action if they have broken the Financial Fair Play rules.

Obviously as Shaun Harvey says, if this does happen, Tony will defend it. It does seem amazing though. Man Utd spend £60m on one player and spend £350k a week on another player's 'tax free' wages and we are in the firing line for getting done.

It is easy to have a go at Shaun Harvey, the guy is just doing his job, but his statement at the end that the league have to have integrity seems to be absolutely laughable. The Premiership is simply about the top 4 teams and their welfare, the rest don't have an even playing field. That is why the Championship for me is much better. Teams like us can actually win it.

Never knowingly right.

At risk of stirring the pot, didn't QPR sign 19 players last season? Unless your management can prove that every one of those 19 players was necessary because you couldn't have got a team out without them, I'd suggest that the League will not look on the argument about pre-existing contracts with any favour.

also got rid of around 15 players. Most of the signings were frees or loans. No doubt we over spent again but it was impossible not to after the way we cocked up the previous year. The only way out of the hole was to get promoted and we were never going to do that by getting rid of the entire squad.

It's the punishment that gets me, should never be a fine should be a sporting sanction such as points deduction or transfer embargo

Many people on here saying it's illegal.

Who cares if it's illegal, it's wether it's ethical that matters

I say yes it is (ethical and legal).

Just a shame it could be happening to us.

What's unethical about investing money into a business?

My point was that overspending to gain a sporting advantage is unethical, which it is.

Saying that most clubs will take the pound note given the opportunity doesn't mean that they won't sign up to regulations against it. Now in theory they can't.

If we don't pay this fine we'll fvck things up for everyone.

Ethics went out of football the day SKY money came into the game.

Pardon my ignorance, but for how many years does this edict apply?Say we don't get relegated for five years, what then?
It would really f*ck things up if the Prem decided it was going to adopt two divisions.
It all sounds like a plea bargaining opportunity anyway.
The vultures are already gathering it seems....

It's a ridiculous piece of regulation in a world in which Man Utd supporters are effectively paying off the debts of their owners.

However, there's no way that we will be relegated to the Conference. The League would look incredibly stupid, as would QPR. Some sort of compromise will eventually be reached. I suspect that we'll argue about the figure and it will be greatly reduced and then they'll agree to give the money to a charity which Mittal would have given it to anyway.

The other thing that i'm not sure about is whether we are allowed to change our accounting year end, under Premier League rules. In theory we should be able to extend our year end by up to 6 months, which wouldn't be sensible as the year end would sensibly be matching the season. But legally we can extend it from 31 May to 30 November or anywhere in between. Even if we went somewhere in-between it would mess up the calculations made by the Football League.

The FFP rules are different for the League and the Championship - and I can't see any allowance for relegated clubs from the Premiership. Whole FFP badly thought-out set of rules full stop. Not chance they will be enforceable. Also, to fine clubs astronomical sums that are already in serious debt will only put those clubs into administration - its a bit like fining someone for taking out a payday loan (1500%) and not those who managed to get a 2% loan.

FFP will only make the rich clubs richer and the smaller clubs poorer.

The only way forward is a wage cap - I heard Rooney is on 15million a year - put a wage cap at 1m a year and it will make it a more level playing field - but no doubt EEC laws will top that - lets all get out of EC

Actually the EU is our friend in this. Anything that is a barrier or retrient in trade or competition can and will be challenged. One of the many reasons that FIFA hides in Switzerland (other than favourable tax rules which dont see the organisation as a business) was a belief that it could avoid a lot of the EU rules and regulations. They have been found wanting on that a number of times so far.

In this case FFP can very easily be shown to be an uncompetitive practice (its already being challenged from different angles by the Bosman ruling lawyer) and in this country I'd certainly back Mittal and Tune Groups lawyers to have a field day with the Football League on this one. As others have said it is very doubtful that retrospective rules could be applied to QPR when we were not within the organisation at the time now could we avoid the legally binding contractual arrangements which predated FFP, and which unlike FFP have a basis in law.

Never knowingly understood

think of all the new grounds we'd go to in the conference...and if we go up, we can tick all the boxes in lge 2!

they wanna start on little ol qpr, well they will have to look closer then at man utd, lpool, chelsea, man city and many others....at the faurlin case, qpr had 100s of files on many signings by other clubs to use as evidence....
liverpool and mascherano still rankles....then there's arsenal and all the brazilains with dodgy portugeese id??!

throughout the history of the game, one team or another has bought success and it changes, often.....liverpool dominated the 70s and 80s, forest broke the mould....come the prem lge and man utd got the upper hand with arsenal and chelsea popping up...now it's man city
and that's just england.....the balance changes in italy, germany, not so much spain and holland imo....now we have so called FAIR PLAY....look at fifa first methinks!!

I really really want FFP. But only having FFP in the Championship and excluding the Premiership is never going to work. The gulf in income between the two leagues is waaay to much.

having said this our business in january was pretty objectionable. We splurged money on unnecessary players in janary, having done pretty well (IMO) to get rid of players in the summer. So it does look like we just stuck up two fingers to FFP.

Either way the scale of the fines is extraordinary. I wouldnt have a problem if (more reasonable) fines were shared amongst the clubs that didn't overspend. I think this is fair. Just giging it to charity seems utterly pointless. i appreciate there are legal ramifications in the former suggestion, but then this shows just how rushed and stupid the FFP rules are.

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it
