And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles
Brian Moore
It certainly reinforces your mortality when your hero's are sadly departing
I will never forget one split second bit of comic timed genius on The Young Ones when Madness were the guest band at the end. Rik asks "Do yo know Living Doll by Cliff Richard?" Dead pan response to him with a classic look on his face, "No, but you hum it....and we'll smash your face in"
RIP fella, the laughter lives on but you'll be writing your new stuff at the pearly gates for those lucky people up there.
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal
I was shocked when I saw thus scroll by on the screens in the office, truly a sad day for British comedy actors and writers. I hope the BBC can dedicate a night to him on bbc2 or something.
RIP and thoughts to your family you leave behind. Thanks for all the laughs :)
Sad news this. I liked Rik especially in The Young Ones, Blackadder and The New Statesman. Had a naturally funny face and was a great narrator too. A sad loss to entertainment.
Just woken up to this sad news. So many classic scenes to remember & definitely haul out some DVD's. Even remember seeing him in the play that caused Stephen Fry to do a runner - early mid 90's - he managed to get some Botom like silly buggars in that. RIP
My eldest has only recently started getting into Blackadder and we were watching episodes with his Flashheart character and I always felt he was a bit too OTT for Blackadder, a bit like being hit by a hurricane when he came into a scene. Saying that though his scenes in the Forth Series were very funny.
Will always remember best for Rik in the Young Ones. A major part of my teenage years wasted watching countless reruns on VHS instead of revising!
i liked a lot of his work but for me "bottom" was perfection from the hancock type asides to the laurel and hardy slapstick, just really made me laugh! also added to the fact that eddie was a rangers fan and we got quite a few mentions , i was in heaven and in stichs watching that! thanks rik you were the dogs!
AND WHEN I DREAM , I DREAM ABOUT YOU AND WHEN I SCREAM I SCREAM ABOUT YOU!!!!!

'His train WILL stop at San Domingo' heh.heh, old man
I can honestly say I can't think of any other comedy actor who made me laugh like Rik, everything he did was hilarious. Did any of you see Grim Tales, the jackanory type story telling for kids - Rik style? The guy was completely amazing and in another league from everyone else.
I am really gutted by this news, such a waste but thank you Rik for making such an impression in your short lifetime.
Grim Tales was excellent and showed a completely different side to Rik Mayall.
The Young Ones came out in my first year at university - it was like we were being given a template. I've known plenty of people who died younger than him but the fact that he's so identified with my first adult years makes his death shocking to me. Even sadder if true that he never really recovered from that accident about 16 years ago.
It's like someone haas got hold of a part of my youth and kicked it in the bollocks.
Sums it up perfectly.
Did you lot see Believe Nothing? It was a sort of spiritual successor to The New Statesman. Had some great moments.
F**k. This is just the worst news.
Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

Truelly a legend if you want to see him at his best catch any of the live shows , rumour has it rik and Ade were supposed to be getting back together recently but something happened to stop it , a shame I'd have loved to have seen them back on stage. One last time.
New statesman and flash heart will always be top of my Fav performances watch black adder and you can see queenie start to lose it during his performances

Good call on Grim Tales - they were great especially after the endless kids programs I've had to watch and most parents.
Young One's was the must watch growing up and loved the New Statesman when I was a little older. Good line in mad eye staring he had too.
Now at 43 it's so sad when you see a great die so young. Plus it reminds you of your own mortality.
Sad to hear this news. I grew up watching him and the Young Ones was one of my all time shows. I used to laugh so much I had tears in my eyes. Makes you start thinking my about life. Sh#t he was only 10 years older than me! RIP Rik
I heard a story when he had the accident on the quad bike he had to be air lifted to hospital. When they hauled him up on the stretcher all his loose change and keys kept falling out of his pockets, which while being a horrible situation for his family that were there, they couldn't help but see the funny side to it and thought it summed him up. Making a tragic situation funny.A great comedian. His death though is very sad news. RIP Rik Mayall
From the Young Ones - "And the grown-ups will say "But why are the kids crying?" And the kids will say "Haven't you heard? Rik is dead! The People's Poet is dead!" RIP Legend
