Morgan Whittaker told he isn’t in Russell Martin’s long term Swansea City plans

Morgan Whittaker has had a private meeting with Swansea manager Russell Martin and has been told he will not be featuring in his plans for the rest of this season. The news has impacted quite negatively on Morgan who expected to be able to go out on loan in January and return in June.

Russell Martin was open in discussing players who are on their way. "There will be some people leaving the club as well so we're trying to work out their best options and what they want to do. There's loads that goes into it. It's a really tough time of the year, December, for everyone because you can make the best plans in the world, and sometimes it takes a lot longer than it should because other teams maybe don't plan so well or they make changes late on. We've spent a lot of hours with Mark Allen. The hard work has been going on and it's becoming clearer and clearer what the options are going to be, what we need becomes clearer and what we have in terms of resources available to us," said the swans boss. But for certain players in particular who are not playing so much who probably accept their future lies elsewhere, it becomes a long tough month. They want it sorted, they can get anxious and feel a bit uncertain about what's going on”

We know Morgan Whittaker was one of the players told he is unlikely to feature before the end of the month. We have already reported that Jay Fulton was told he was not to expect any first team league opportunities two months ago, Yan Dhanda the same. However in Whittaker’s case he is extremely disappointed that the door to first team opportunities has closed, and the Swans are keen for him to go out on loan in January. The teams interested won’t be able to match the clubs £600k valuation, although they are prepared to discuss finance options to remove Whittaker from the pay roll. Lincoln City are keen to sign him and have Tony Scully as an option in negotiations.

Morgan Whittaker finds himself out of favour at Swansea

Things haven’t gone right for Morgan Whittaker since the arrival of Russell Martin. What we do know is he has struggled with the intensity of the clubs new training ethic. This includes both physical and mental conditioning to be prepared to take on specific roles within the match day eleven. Martin also stated today they as a coaching team have a first class injury record as a result of the type of physical training they do.

Martin continued, "We just need to get through this month as best as we can, we'll have loads of conversations with everyone. We're really clear with the players who are potentially leaving, they understand their situations and they have done for a while so that makes it easier. There's no pretence or being false with anyone. Whilst they're here, they get treated with 100% respect and professionalism”

We do know now the swans have three targets for January with at least three players rising to five likely to leave on loan or permanently.
