Respect To Didier Drogba

I have to say that when i look at most Chelsea players i see what is most wrong with football today, sneering greedy multi millionaires who care only about themselves, however it seems they have a traitor in their midst.

I have a confession to make I don't like some of the players who play for Chelsea, in fact i find myself disliking a bigger proportion of their players than virtually any other team, well perhaps Manchester United match them.

I only have to look at the likes of John Terry and his team mates to see all that is wrong with football these days, players that play for more money before any glory and believe they are above and better than anyone else unless they are another pampered footballer.

When Didier Drogba came on against Saints as substitute back in January I hurled abuse at him with the same venom i did his team mates, but perhaps i was wrong, you cannot jusge a bokk by its cover and less even by what other books are along side it on the shelf perhaps.

So today when I read a story about Drogba, albeit and old one that I had missed, it made me realise that not every Chelsea player is an arrogant greedy ****

Drogba in 2009 announced he would be donating the £3 million signing on fee for his endorsement of Pepsi for the construction of a hospital in his hometown of Abidjan. This work was done through Drogba's recently created "Didier Drogba Foundation" and Chelsea announced they too would donate the fee for the deal toward the Foundation's project. Drogba decided on building the hospital after a recent trip to the Ivorian capital's other hospitals, saying

"... I decided the Foundation's first project should be to build and fund a hospital giving people basic healthcare and a chance just to stay alive."

That is a big commitment to make whilst most footballers are happy to have the odd photo taken in the name of charity, few put their hands in their own pockets to this degree.

So respect to Didier Drogba and respect to Chelsea Football Club, it may be a story i missed at the time, but Im not to proud to right a wrong and give credit where credit is due.
