Rochdale legend Jenkins passes away

The man voted as our greatest ever player - Reg Jenkins - has died aged 74.

News came through on Wednesday morning that Jenkins had passed away on Tuesday whilst on holiday in Tenerife recuperating from a recent knee injury. Reg was an almost permanent fixture in the Dale side back in the sixties, and he remains to this day our record goal scorer with 119 goals to his name.

Not only was he a great player, those fans who have met him over the years all profess about what a fantastic and humble person that he was. He never lost touch with Rochdale, and would often be in attendance in our games in his native Devon. He returned to Rochdale at the end of the promotion season for the End of Season Awards Evening.

A minute's applause will be held in his honour ahead of this weekend's game with Chesterfield. Dale fans are urged to be in attendance this weekend so that they can pay their tributes.

A thread has been set up on the messageboard for supporters to pay their respects which will be passed on to his family.
