Hasenhuttl Gives Southampton Injury Update Ahead Of Trip To Leeds United
Monday, 22nd Feb 2021 15:28

Ralph Hasenhuttl has given the latest news on his injury list as Saints travel up to Elland Road to take on Leeds United in a game that could see the Austrian's team leapfrog the Yorkshire side if they win.

The real issue will be whether Stuart Armstrong will be fit enough to face Leeds, Ralph ad this to say

"It's fifty-fifty. That is a lot for me, it doesn't sound a lot to you, but it's a lot!

"As far as I have seen we have no more injuries - but normally I get all good messages and then they come and tell me that we have a few issues.

"Hopefully, I don't see my doctor," he said with a laugh.

Saints will also remain without Theo Walcott, Ibrahima Diallo, Kyle Walker-Peters, Will Smallbone, and Michael Obafemi for their mid-week trip.

Only Armstrong has a chance of playing against Leeds and it could be that he will make the bench with Ralph sticking with the starting XI that performed so well against Chelsea.

As much as I rate Armstrong - I would leave him out of this one. We can ill afford losing him for a longer period. KWP is a perfect example of bringing a player back too soon with so many games crammed into each week.

Saves Ralph a bit of a headache. Goal aside, the performance up front against Chelsea wasn't great. Normally I'd always play Armstrong if he's fit but who would you drop to make room? You could make a case for leaving out any of the front four but you could equally make a case for keeping them in. Even if he was fit I'd be inclined to start with Armstrong on the bench.

pjt, our performance up front has not been great for a long time, even before the injury crisis and run of defeats we were relying on an odd goal. If the defence fails it gets alot of negative attention but our frontline seems to get a free pass.

Restart Adams or swap Redmond and Minamino over from Saturdays set up.

Minamino is probably the " shortest" striker that Saints have had for a decade or more, but anyone who can finish as he can should be up front - in the box - waiting for a few chances to come his way.
I'm not advocating this for the rest of the season, but both he and Ings are our best chances of scoring ....so - just this once - look to play 3-5-2 and try to snuff out " the Leeds machine" and give the strikers the sort of passes that Minimono got on Saturday.

I agree that Armstrong shouldn't be forced to play in a game like this, but with Djenepo Adams and Redmond on hand they can be subbed around and not have to be played for the whole 90+ minutes.

Difficult one, but personally I'd like to see Armstrong start, as he is SO good, including being an important goal threat, and this IS a very important match, because it looks winnable, and If we get the win and reach 33 points it will make us pretty calm about what must seem like a quite small relegation threat - with 13 games to play - and make us able to prioritate the FA cup highly. We are two wins from the final! So I hope to see SA play because it makes our chances of beating Leeds bigger. Let's give Redmond and Minamino a rest, put SA in as one of our two no. 10's - Djenepo being the other one - and give Adams a refreshed come back to the starting 11 - up front. Redmond and Minamino as impact players from the bench won' t make Bielsa particularly happy, I imagine. COYS!

We need to start Adams and Ings up front tonight because they were establishing a good partnership together whereas Ings and Redmond dont. Adams must have had 3 goals ruled out for offside lately. I would also start Armstrong tonight.
