I'm going tonight to my first game since the 3-0 home defeat to Sunderland, which I think was Critchley's last home game? I naively assumed that he and the players had reached a point where they disliked each other so much that things gradually fell apart, and that there would be some element of new manager bounce (even it was just grinding out a few results in an ugly manner). Things have seemed to get progressively worse since, so I am almost morbidly fascinated to witness another 3-0 defeat this evening. My partner (a Celtic fan) sometimes comes down with me, but could not persuade her on this occasion. 'Why I would travel across London after work on a Wednesday night to watch you lose 3-0 again?' A reasonable question. |

I think we're at the stage now where if it doesn't work out with him people will not blame him. Critchley got a lot of support in the ground and understanding on here for the unenviable position he took on, and he's got no connection to the club, so don't worry about that with Ainsworth too much. On the one hand I think some of the players that have already phoned it in won't take to someone like him, on the other hand I think f**k them. Given how diabolical we have been defensively of late, someone who can properly organise a team may be no bad thing. Given his work producing marauding defenders in the past in a back three I'd hope Wilder would get hold of Dickie, but he didn't seem to have a good relationship with Boro board so not sure that would be any better at LR! |

Maybe we would have got something from the game if we score that penalty, but we only had one in the first place because their player inexplicably decided to punch it. When you've won 1 in 17 and somehow gone from 1st to 17th within four months, 'fine margins' has nothing to do with it. I would have accepted that when Sheffield United got a 96th minute equaliser in a genuinely good game of football six weeks ago, but spare me with all that bollocks now. I have never seen a team give the ball away so many times in the middle of the park in my life, whether it was Dozzell or Tim pissing around with it or one of the defenders lazily rolling it to no one. Dieng's distribution just as bad. Chair's end product has fallen off a cliff, but as said elsewhere on here, he's the only one at the moment not hiding miles away from the ball. Compare that to Sunderland's young team last night, who all wanted it. |

He's going to be our next manager isn't he? |

It seemed at the start of this season it had drilled out of us, and I thought going from three centre-backs to two was a good move, as there was one less body to aimlessly pass it to, but it has returned with a vengeance. Dunne and Dickie (especially the latter) have been off the pace too but I do feel for them when they look up and see absolutely no one showing for it further up. As for Tim, I appreciate he is young and it's part of the process, but I have rarely seen a player look so good and then so poor within the space of a week. Will be a problem for him, and us in the shorter term! |

It sounds very familiar to Millwall away last year (difference being that was near the beginning of the bad run not this stage of it!) The repetitive nature of the passing around the back waiting for it to be robbed off us in these games is infuriating to watch, and so ineffective that you may as well lump it up to Dykes/Armstrong and hope for the best. Hard to find at this level, but feels like we do lack a deep-lying midfielder in the Faurlin mode (or think Norwood at Sheffield United) who can get on the ball further back but play positively forward. Johansen perhaps the closest to it, but even he is better more advanced. Field has often held the midfield together, but doesn't really possess that incisive passing forward. |

It seemed to me last night that the formation was the problem. None of our wing backs had much joy in going forward, but Adomah also really struggled defensively up against Malone, who got in behind a lot. I think there's a bit of an issue developing against sides who don't aim to press us high up and let our three centre-backs have the ball all day long. Field and Johansen then drop in to pick the ball up, but the cycle repeats itself as we're too far away from our three forwards. If I was Warbs (luckily I'm not) I'd be tempted on Saturday to revert to 4-2-3-1, with Dickie's suspension saving a tricky decision. Dunne and Barbet would still get the protection from Field alongside Johansen/Hendrick that they need, but you can add Amos is as the link man between the DMs and Chair/Willock one striker. Amos looks to play forward and has been underused in recent weeks. The current formation has got us to where we are, but there needs to be an element of adaptability against some of the 'lesser' teams (FWIW I'd still stick with three at the back against better teams willing to go toe to toe). |
