Watford v Southampton Your Report added at 04:12:16
Finally, dominance pays off! Mind you, the scoreline could and should have been more comfortable, with missed chances plaguing both Adams and A Armstrong, but the difference in this one was that Ralph played more pragmatically late in game, packing things back a bit more and bringing on sensible defensive substitutes (e.g. Lyanco on for Romeu, changing things to a back five with Stuart dropping into central midfield). Oh, the other difference is that the one good chance Watford had was turned away fantastically by McCarthy, who generally had a solid performance.

Individually, no especially great standouts for me, though Livramento and KWP deserve mention and Romeu had his usual solid game in CM.

Reveling in the three points!

Agree with the ratings: Broja, Salisu, and especially Livramento were class; the two DMs were solid; Perraud and Walcott were poor. Redmond was Redmond: he did some good things, looking dangerous with the ball at his feet, running at the defense a bit...but poor decisions still plague him after all these years. A couple of posts question how he could possibly miss from two yards out--I'll tell you: if you are at the back post when a cross comes in from the right, hit it with your left foot ffs! How on earth a professional football doesn't have the sense to do this I'll never know. All he had to do was stick his left foot out--he didn't even have to swing it or try to make solid contact! Instead he sweeps with his right, predictably drags it past post, and looks amazed when he didn't score...ok rant over.
Overall an entertaining match but it's so frustrating continually outplaying opponents and not getting three points. Last three home games: 53 shots to 17. 3 goals to 3. Not just speculative pops from distance, either: Ely and Redmond have managed to miss from less than two yards out, Walcott and A.Armstrong misses uncontested shots from near the penalty spot, etc. Can't blame Ralph for that. The results haven't been there but the team is entertaining, creates plenty of chances, and outplays their opponents. Have to think we'll come good at some point.

First...thank goodness! Beating Fulham at home may not be a terribly impressive feat, but it was desperately needed. Yoshida was virtually flawless in his return; here's hoping Ralph sees fit to play him in the center of the back line from here on in. JWP has really taken this aggression idea to heart--can't believe his thunderous tackle in their half in the first half that led to a Redmond chance. Romeu was massive as well. Long again was a disappointment. I've been a staunch defender of his over the years--although he is flat-out poor in front of goal his endeavor has always been inspiring and not infrequently led to goals...often for others.

Perhaps it's just that Fulham is so poor, but how refreshing was it to have a two-goal lead and actually hold comfortable possession for long stretches rather than play from inside our own penalty area. Glad that six blown two-goal leads in the last 12 months didn't turn into 7. Hopefully that will become more the norm. It was nice not feeling sick to my stomach with a second-half lead.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. I never want this feeling to end. Fantastic effort by everyone involved. Special praise to Romeu, who's done fantastic work all year, and Shane, whose tireless running has earned my complete respect--it's only fitting that he's the one who has provided my favorite Saints moment ahead of all the great moments since Markus occasioned our revival. I'll never forget my reaction in a bar full of Liverpool and Arsenal fans: "OOOHHHHHHH----holy **** we're going to WEMBLEY!!!!!!"
