You and Mel seemed like two peas in a pod with your knowledge of players that we bought and players that we missed out on.
I thought that, despite all the details, Mel's method of actually selecting a player remained quite mysterious. The days of the scout as craftsman seem to be drawing to a close. Maybe it's too labour-intensive.
Agree we need him to hold up the ball. I wonder if he should just focus on improving that one aspect of his game and forget about everything else (like scoring goals, which seems an impossible mountain to climb).
1. It seems to me too early to pass a final judgement. It will be interesting to see if once he does score then he gets going and scores regularly, or whether scoring is a flash in the pan like it was with Dykes.
2. One thing in his favour is that he is not rigid like Dykes. Hopefully this means that his touch can get better (which would improve his hold up play).
For some reason the account with the English translation of Let the Name of the Strongest Country Become Well Known got terminated as soon as I posted a link to it (perhaps due to fear of defections to the the Strongest Country).
For those who missed it, here is Let the Name of the Strongest Country Become Well Known without translation:

I will sing a thousand times to spread the name of my country around the world We will take the never-ending speed to glory The everlasting will to use our power for resources Making us the wealthiest nation in the world With our miracles, the world looks to us The spirit of our nation shines above all My country is a great power Let us make that name well known!
