I've just posted on the Scowen thread before seeing this one and mentioned Mass ... though it only right to repeat in this one Our midfield three our a fantastic combination with Scowen holding it all together, allowing the other two freedom to play. I'm particulary happy with Luongo. Whilst I've never slated him , I'll admit that I've always been underwhelmed by him. For me he was always " nearly " very good but he just never quite clicked or completely influenced a game. This season, he's been a revalation and starting to look like a very very good footballer. It's a joy to watch |

Agree wholeheartedly , I think he's fantastic and after Smithies is our 2nd most important player. For me he holds everything together and definitely allows Mass and Freeman the freedom to tick. The midfield three are a great combination and as mentioned above, really compliment each other. I've always been underwhelmed by Luongo, for me he was always " nearly " very good but he just never quite clicked or completely influenced a game. This season, he's been a revalation and starting to look like a very very good footballer. |

I saw a newspaper report somewhere via the news now website that gave him a 2 / 10 rating in the opening game. Apparantley he was hauled off due to playing so badly.. I'm torn with Luongo, there is clearly a talented footballer in there somewhere but I've been seriously underwhelmed. For me he's a "nearly" player.... he's nearly very good at everything but never seems to quite get there and for me often ends up games having never really had a sufficient impact. I find it frustrating as hell watching him. If we got a good fee, I don't think I'd be sad to see him go but I have a feeling he'll end uo finding all of his talent at some point a becoming a really decent player .... wouldn't it just be typical If that happened once he'd left! |

Again, based on my age and eras I've seen with my own eyes. Ferdinand Sinton Wilson Bardsley Wilkins Sinclair Faurlin Adel Helguson Austin Tough one, could have easily included: Rowlands, Gallen, McDonald, Maddix, Parker |

Hes definitely a wrongun but lets be honest, hes a seriously player. It seems to me that we're confideng of getting him right as we've been pursuing him for a long time, even before Holloway. Has to be worth a go in my opinion |

I make you right, I think ghats exactly the thinking behind it. I'm sure we made a lot more money for Washington and it looks line ghey are banking on getting him firing. |

I've been championing Luongo and can clearly see he has good technical ability but my patience is wearing pretty thin. After each game, even with some of his clever touches and attempts at progressive forward passes, I'm left thinking " what impact did he actually have on today's game "? Overall, our midfield is desperate and it's too important a position for us to have players that don't really have any influential impact on the game. For me, we need to do everything possible to get Cousins in the team in CM, I don't care if others are dropped as a result. he seems like he might have a "presence " and the ability to really drive the team on. Something we desperately need |

Danny Simpson went on to win the PL and is playing in the CL. We're a shambles |

Hard not to agree. I was against sacking both of the last managers, thought it was too early and against what we had been preaching. I'm sick of change and sick of being a circus, but this is very exciting, add Bircham to that list as it looks like he's incoming and it's hard not to smile. Personally, I don't think we''ll be chasing promotion anytime soon but frankly who cares. We now have people who care as much as us and I'm sure that will become evident on the pitch. We''ll still be the underdogs and a mid table champ team but it will be fun again. I'm confident fans will be much happier accepting our mid table status when it's fun and being run by people who care and are trying their guts out......... the scary part is the owners , I just don't think they will ever settle for mid table and I'm sure the circus will continue |

Interesting points. It's difficult not to be disillusioned with how football has gone, there is so much to dislike. Having said that, I took my boys to Wembley last night, £20 for an adult ticket, £10 for kids. You can't complain about those prices, we had a great time and no matter how bad things seem to be, there we're still 85 000 people there. Overall, money is clearly changing / ruining football. It's obviously generally more expensive to watch but I thing the biggest decline is due to the standard of entertainment that gets served up, pretty much anywhere. Sadly, because the money is so important and there is so much at stake, we now have the phenomenon of teams trying "not to lose" rather than win and it's horrible to watch!! Even if you get an Aresenal or City with wonderful players and passing, you get the other team ruining the spectacle. It's the same at international football and the lower leagues. We don't even see good top 4 games on Sky any more, because one team always cancels the other out. So I don't necessarily think it's the cost of watching football that sends fans away and ruins the atmosphere but it's the money pressure clubs are under. The mangers are just too scared to loose... I bet players hate it..... you've dreamt of playing in the PL all your life but all you get told to do is sit back and Park the bus !! [Post edited 12 Nov 2016 13:08]

Even though this thread went a bit loopy, I too think there is a tiny bit of food for thought in the original post. Not that I think for one second we should be getting rid of either Luongo or Chery, they're both clearly talented and very important to us. However, I haven't been as excited about Luongo as others have, the potential is there no doubt but I really hope Holloway can find the right balance and if that means, one of them doesn't play, so be it. For me personally, one of my biggest disappointments this year has been Cousins, he was the signing I was most pleased about, I genuinely think he has a bright future and can be a player we all get behind for a long time to come. The problem is, we're yet to see him in his natural position and all because the team has had to accommodate others. I''d just love to see round pegs in round holes, sometime players will miss out and sometimes I'd like to see it change to suit the game accordingly. At an level of of football , I hate seeing players picked just because they are perceived to to be best and to the possible detriment of the team. Not easy being a manager is it ...... |
