Looked at from an outsider's viewpoint, you could argue that City have a much bigger, more impressive ground, an impressive training ground, bigger crowds, and have had several young players come through their academy and go on to play in the Premier League in recent years. He also knows O'Leary, Knight, and Sykes from the RoI squads. He'll pocket a nice signing-on fee and a bump in pay too. Plus Bristol's a nice part of the world. I don't think it's a completely weird move.

City are in the same situation with Tommy Conway, who has a year left on his contract, and who's been at City since he was nine. Club offered him a reportedly hefty pay rise, and it was rejected without any attempts at negotiating. He's now training with the U-21's as Manning doesn't want distractions and Conway has made it clear he wants to go.

Figure being reported locally by journo and fans who are usually itk is £1.25m + £1m in add-ons. Not sure how they convinced him to go along with this effort:

Being reported in the local paper that City and Rangers have agreed a £2m fee. Tinnion, the DOF at City, was saying recently how City's forwards have all been a bit samey since Semenyo left, and that they were looking to add someone similar.

Semenyo had loads of power and pace, but his finishing often let him down in his first few years in and around the 1st team. He's ended up being a really decent player, and I guess City are hoping that with similar physical attributes, they can help Sinclair progress in the same way.

You have to love sports administrators: "Gates are at their highest since 1952, away supports are up almost across the board despite high ticket prices and travel costs, and non-league crowds are up at many clubs...things are looking good. How can we sustain this?"

"What if we moved all the kick-off times to times when it meant getting on the road at 6am or getting home at 1am, or people having to book time off work and stay overnight? What if games were played out in near silence at lunchtime? Maybe we could organise for games to clash with kids football? And stick all the games on TV, so that anyone thinking, ''Do I really want to spend £150 on Preston away?' decides to watch it from their sofa?"

"Yes! Let's fu cking do it!"

Still, at least we know that clubs won't just spunk the extra TV money up the curtains.

The weirdest thing is when the camera pans in on a couple of fans, both close to tears because they're losing/going out the cup/getting relegated, then they spot they're on the big screen, and giddy with excitement, start waving, smiling, and bouncing around. Bit odd that, but happens all the time.

Got him a bit of coverage, though, which is a struggle for Lib Dem's anyway, but especially with Farage on the scene again. And being an absolute clown was always cited as a reason that a lot of people liked Johnson.

Congratulations - it must be an amazing feeling and it will be such a proud moment when she runs out in the kit for the first time. I hope she has a lot of fun and learns a lot along the way.

I was really pleased about James Timpson too. Someone with lifelong, first hand experience in that field, who is passionate about improving the situation and who has entered politics for the right reason. No ambition to seek a more glamorous role, and seemingly a very decent bloke.

The energy independence thing is the one bit that I have never understood about opposition to renewables. Even if you think that climate change is made-up/drone on about dinosaurs and Romans planting grapes in Carlisle, surely every, go it alone, patriotic Briton, would love to see a time when we weren't at the mercy of the Middle-East, Russia etc when it came to our economy? But no, they seem weirdly wedded to oil and gas, and completely resistance to establishing an independent, domestic supply of energy. Strange.

banthebbc sounds like a bit of a knob - "Jess Phillips imports" - I can guess what that means, but not sure it makes much sense unless Jess Phillips personally sponsored some immigrants to come to the UK and they've now turned on her. Which might have happened, but seems unlikely.

It's difficult enough to attract "good" people into politics, without adding the possibility of physical intimidation to the mix. I think Nigel Farage is an absolute cu nt of a man, but he should be free to campaign without people throwing stuff at him. Jess Phillips should be free to campaign and attend her count without being intimidated, shouted down or threatened. The least surprising thing in the world is that these ar seholes tend to target women more than men.

Okay, but what's that got to do with lowering the age of consent to get around having to do something about grooming gangs? We need to lower the age of consent so that 14 year olds can legally have sex with taxi drivers, because if we don't then children will take their own lives? I think that would be a hard sell.

I'm just a simple man with 5 GCSEs, so forgive my ignorance, but what does lowering the age of consent have to do with preventing children taking their own lives or blocking puberty?

We're going to lower the age of consent to 15/14/13 because it will be good for kids' mental health? Not sure that's gonna fly.

If, by the end of the next parliament, Labour have lowered the age of consent, then I will send Clive the money and ask him to buy you a pint. I'll even throw in a pack of crisps.

If Labour don't introduce a bill to lower the age of consent during that time, you can buy Clive a pint of Peroni for me. It'll probably be about £14 by then.

Surely that only works if for most of the general public, the problem with grooming gangs is not that these horrible cu nts are abusing youngsters, but that they're breaking the law? I don't think that being able to say, "Yeah, but middle-aged blokes can legally bang 14 year olds now" is going to make too much difference on how the public views these things. Even if for some reason, Labour felt a priority was making the public more comfortable with grooming gangs rather than prosecuting them, it would be political suicide and isn't going to happen.

Westminster journalist June 2001: "Mr Blair, If you are elected Prime Minister and 3 months later, Al Qaeda hijack and crash 2 planes into the WTC in NYC, will you join the Americans in launching a 'War on Terror' that will take in the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq on the flimsiest of pretexts?"

Not sure Labour could have been expected to include the invasion of Iraq as one of their manifesto commitments, for several obvious reasons, not least the timeline. But no, you're right, they're bound to lower the age of consent despite no supporting evidence.

This is getting a bit odd now. Labour haven't mentioned lowering the age of consent anywhere, there's no suggestion that even a single Labour candidate was advocating it. Yet you're seemingly convinced it's part of the Labour agenda. You seem to be about 4 posts away from claiming that Labour are going to make daily dog-wan king mandatory in primary schools. I mean, is this what people wanted when they voted Labour? Kids in rainbow sweatshirts wan king off dogs during assembly? Is it? Because you only had to apply some critical thinking to the situation to see this was central to their agenda.

Especially when you take FPTP into account and the fact that hundreds of constituencies have tiny Muslim populations. Also, Muslims are not a monolithic block who will all vote the same way.

I'm a bit uncomfortable with it too, but the only time I haven't voted for Labour at a GE was in protest at the invasion of Iraq, and that's true for quite a few people I know, so hopefully it will be similar here, with Labour having refused to call for a ceasefire in Gaza. But as with Northern Ireland, I think it would be very bad news and extremely divisive if people stood on religious platforms.

Scott Parker and Burnley

If you're the average football club owner who is new to the game, you look at Parker's 2 promotions to the PL as evidence that this is a man who can get you promoted. And with parachute payments, there's a good chance that he can. You just have to accept that you'll be bored out of your mind and will make hard work of it. Polar opposite of someone like Silva or Cifuentes who can put out a side greater than the sum of its parts.
