All the colours of the rainbow to choose from and we select Excremental Yellow. Whoever signed off on that deserves to be treated with the utmost scorn. The limited edition Ajax kit we did a few years ago was fine enough to be married in. The Barcelona hoops (Convivia) was excellent. This kit is a crime against humanity and should be banned by the Geneva Convention. |

Considered takes from me:
* Ref wasn't great but we've seen far worse.
* Thought the first half was a terrific advert for the Rs: crowd in great voice, flamethrower football, attitude and endeavour.
* Still can't quite believe the first goal but, like it or not, Bannon's delivery was excellent. One day we'll stop him from looking like Zidane (it's not just the hair).
* Second half, I just couldn't see where we might get into them. Midfield looked confused and the forwards couldn't get free. Crossing was neither one thing nor the other and set pieces were unusually weak.
* Bad day at the office but we've played much worse and won, and recently.

I've had a sneaking suspicion for some time that this is Marti's (or someone at the club's) superpower. When things went to rat shit last season, Marti got a tune out of, basically, the same team through pragmatism and togetherness. They started to believe in each other and the team. Results improved, they believed that little bit more. You could see it: they ran harder, covered each other, supported runs, gambled on the ball coming in - all stuff you don't see from a team that's pissed off.
I think we're seeing a similar thing now, where players are saying 'it's up to us' and giving their best in every match. Doesn't always work but it's more effective more often! |
