| Forum Thread | NFR - Smiths of Castleton at 09:32 24 Oct 2024
An end of an era - Smiths bakery of Castleton (and Heywood) will close on 2nd November. The business has been up for sale to allow the owner to retire for sometime - but with no buyer they are to close. With Hiltons in Norden closing after Andrews death, this is another traditional business that makes pretty good pies and egg custard tarts that will have fallen by the wayside. I wish the staff all the best. Always a pre-game ritual for us....not sure what to do now for lunch pies. |
| Forum Thread | Evening with Hendo at 11:37 16 Oct 2024
Last call today for the tickets for Saturdays 'Evening with Hendo'. He deserves a sold out event given his service at Dale. So if you haven't yet got your tickets, today is the last day. ps - the club still hasn't annouced a time for the event - all we know is that it will be after the game against Southend. |
| Forum Thread | Dorking at 11:35 13 Apr 2024
Hope the pitch holds out today. Dorking travelled yesterday and have been relaxing in the pool and sauna's at the Norton Grange overnight. I overheard them say that 36 players and staff were to be catered for - not bad for a semi-pro part time team. Lets hope they ate a large breakfast |
| Forum Thread | Save our football club at 07:49 21 Feb 2024
A new day and we need to take action to see whether the people of Rochdale will rally round in our hour of need. Can we run a media campaign to get people to turn up over the next 3 games in their thousands? Putting an extra £100k into the coffers through ticket sales should keep us going through to the end of the season. The club won't do it but the fans and The Trust could. Or am I barking up the wrong tree |
| Forum Thread | Andy Holt at 20:28 19 Feb 2024
You have to love the bluntness of Andy Holt. He is all over the media today following a series of tweets where he implied that Accy have a £1m black hole that he won't be fixing in full by sinking his cash. He has said that ticket prices, season ticket prices and refreshment prices will need to rise. And the playing budget cut by another £250k pa now they are a league two club and unlikely to be promoted back to League One. Fair enough Then he goes on to say that he is fed up of players who are all allegedly injured who have no intention of playing and who won't be signing new contracts in summer that drain the club of money. Then this nugget.....the squad of 18 that were named last Saturday cost Accy £689,000 per annum. And we still think we are hard done to with our playing budget. Of course he probably has a similar budget to pay for the injured players. But quite revealing nonetheless. [Post edited 19 Feb 22:04]

| Forum Thread | NFR - Barclays to close in Rochdale at 17:41 12 Jan 2024
Just seen that the main branch in town is to close in April. They have closed all the suburban branches and most market town branches, now its the turn of the large towns. Sad that a town the size of Rochdale won't have one of our main banks in situ. |
| Forum Thread | Boxing Day - we have a part to play at 22:52 22 Dec 2023
Just thinking about the role the regular fans have on making boxing day a success for the future. The £1 initiative is a great maketing initiative and we need to try and make Tuesday a brilliant experience for everyone who comes along. Of course attractive attacking football and 3 points will help - but we need every penny for the rest of the season and this is the start of building a new fan base for the future. Make everybody feel welcomed. Talk to first timers. Share your programme. Tell fans where to go to get refreshments. Buy more draw tickets. We can all do our bit to make sure some of them come back.... I long for the day when we get 4000 fans into Spotland every week. |
| Forum Thread | Crown Oil at 14:05 7 Sep 2023
I was reading about the top 25 most wealthy in Greater Manchester in the MEN recently. Sadly, nobody in Rochdale was on the list. The closest to us was the family that own Crown Oil registered in Heap Bridge. With Crown Oil being our principal sponsor, and a local business, and an advertiser at other sports grounds in the area, they are clearly keen to support local sport commercially. They had a turnover of well over £400m last year, made a profit of £20m+ and had a healthly balance sheet. £18m or so was paid in dividends, presumably to the owners. I wonder whether they have been approached about the prospect of taking an ownership option in the club. They know us well, are cash rich, and could create a lasting legacy for the family or the company in the town. Just a thought [Post edited 7 Sep 2023 15:19]

| Forum Thread | Attendances and away fans at 12:55 22 Aug 2023
I saw that Eastleigh reported that there were 2106 Daleys and 70 away fans at COA on Saturday. If that was right it got me thinking. Why weren't the away fans housed in Pearl Street given we moved our own fans out of the far block to accomodate low away fan followings? And if these numbers are true (I am sure I saw our scoreboard flash something higher) then we have lost 21% of the home fans between the Ebbsfleet and Eastleigh games. We can't afford that and it's imperative that initiatives to drive fans back in are prioritised. I fear for the Friday night game. Of course a few back to back wins would help |
| Forum Thread | Jim's interview on OS at 10:04 22 Jun 2023
Jim has shared quite a bit in his latest interview. Still expects to lose some players before the season starts. Says that the playing budget is the 'most humble' since he has been at the club - I take it that means the lowest. To be expected given what has happened. He talks about the Board being unhappy with how some of the budget has been spent over the past 2 years and don't want the same mistakes again - no pressure then Jim. He is looking at certain players but they are hedging their bets for a better offer - either in terms of salary or playing in the EFL. But at some point some will need to bite. I hope we are not let left looking for the scraps, but it depends on who leaves us over the next week to two. Players are back in next week to start training. No suggestion that they are having a training camp anywhere - the days of affording Tenerife etc are long gone I suspect. |
| Forum Thread | Rory McArdle at 10:52 8 May 2023
I see that Rory signs off his playing career today. How fitting it is against one of his old clubs. He played over 140 games for us and I hope both sets of fans show their appreciation today. |
| Forum Thread | Last 5 games at home at 12:03 13 Mar 2023
It looks like we have 5 games left at home as a football league club. Whilst a miracle could happen, realistically we are looking down the barrel of the gun. It saddens me that the club hasn't tried to get the town to back the club and get along to make an atmosphere and it looks like we will go down with a whimper. So how will you remember these last few games. Will you be encouraging anybody along for a last look? We don't need pitch invasions or banners - there isn't anything anybody can change now. Besides we are more dignified than that. But I hope we can celebrate 102 years in the football league somehow. Any ideas? |
| Forum Thread | Notts County today at 10:47 19 Nov 2022
Not heard from Chalky recently, but noticed that Notts County have run a promotion today and will play in front of a sell out crowd of over 16,000 against Yeovil today. They recognised that the fixtures before Christmas are hard to sell and with them wanting to cement their lead at the top of the table and take advantage of the top two leagues not playing for a while, they ran a promotion. £5 for adults and £1 for kids and they have filled the stadium to create a record breaking non league crowd for a league fixture. Brilliant marketing - although it helps that they are playing well |

Bargain for season ticket holders this Saturday! Or just £41 if you are not. Does anybody buy our hospitality packages anymore? [Post edited 26 Sep 2022 16:25]
