Yet another act of utter hypocrisy by Starmer. He backed the action against the 3rd runway 4 or 5 years ago saying climate change was the priority. What an absolute charlatan he's turned out to be.

He's been a huge disappointment to me too. That said he's only been in for what, 4-5 months but I'm not optimistic.

Boris was infamous for his u-turns too. They all do it, left or right. Can't stand the lot of them.

What a complete lack of imagination from the government. Just rehashing old Tory policies that they fought against in the first place. It will never get built anyway due to the cost etc. Useless the lot of them.
So when do we all think Rachel from accounts will get sacked? Zero credibility. I'm going for before the Autmn budget.

Amen. Runway 3 will not get built in my lifetime, let alone the terms of a Starner Govt.

where the hell are they going to find 3908 metres length and 50 metres wide, plus the open end extensions to either end, plus the taxi ways between the extsting runway and the new one?
Plus they are going to demolish 750 houses to do this.
I cannot see it viable unless they drain the reservoirs, re direct the M25, and build over it!

Are people genuinely surprised by this!? I mean, really?
Fair enough if your some innocent, optimistic fresh faced 20 something still to learn how politics really is.
But for me no excuses for anyone who's been around a while and really thought a PM who was already a Sir and only joined Parliament in 2015 wasn't being shoehorned in by the established Power Base.
Everything and I mean EVERYTHING about him has always screamed Blair 2.0.
Edit - not aimed at you Rangersdave. Used quote button by mistake!

"Pollution won't be a problem" we're told "Planes are more fuel efficient and cleaner"
Yeah, but the increase in vehicle traffic around Heathrow will be a problem and the M4/M25 junction is a nightmare as it is.
"Pollution won't be a problem" we're told "Planes are more fuel efficient and cleaner".
sophistry ˈsɒfɪstri noun the use of clever but false arguments, especially with the intention of deceiving. trying to argue that I had benefited in any way from the disaster was pure sophistry a fallacious argument.
That could've been written by Willie Walsh.
Yes, it is true that planes are getting more efficient and are producing less CO2 but we are decades away from the aviation industry being decarbonised.

That's exactly the plan... to build over the M25! It'll be north of the airport so won't affect the reservoirs.

I’ve seen the plans and it is clearly mapped directly onto BusStop Stadium (TM).
Should keep everyone happy.
Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

This was approved in '21 under the last government. The only "news" is that this government are not going to try and stop the 3rd runway being built

Couldn't we be green and repurpose the Olympic Games lane of the M4 instead?

Air traffic pollution or climate change is not a valid argument against a 3rd runway.
By the time it is finally built which will be 10 years minimum, the odds will be that Airliners with Electric or at least Hybrid Jet Engines will have entered production. And with a more realistic timeline of 15+ years, that will be even more likely.
And to be fair to those about turning from their position 4 or 5 years ago based on climate change, the actuality of electric Jet Engines was a lot further away. And that's about the first time I've ever said anything vaguely in support of Starmer.

I think parties of all colours are hypocrites. Look at how Lammy and Mandelson have changed their tune about Trump . At least the other lot are Trump arse lickers and up front about it. Pathetic . The lot of them .

6 months ago was worst govertment in my lifetime and worst opposition, they've just switched roles now
Labour have been so disapointing and have opened the door to Farage being the next PM
The left are an absolute shambles these days, that should be where my political views go but they have left working people behind and I'm not sure what they stand for anymore. At least with Trump he does what mad shit he said he was going to do rather than get in power and do something different, people who voted for him are getting what they voted for. You can't say that with our lot
