How can anyone begrudge people who have worked 40 to 50 yrs longer in some cases a decent pension and the state pension is far from decent at that, beggars belief.
Some must have plenty of money to fall back on in their retirement to not to worry where the money is coming from. [Post edited 11 Dec 19:03]

A care worker on minimum wages £23,000 a year.
State pension is £11942 a year a lot get even less than that. I am sure pensioners would welcome parity with Care Workers. |

If the £680 is all the pensioner has, then they can claim pension credit which will top them up to around £392 for a couple and £212 for a single person. They’ll also be able to claim other benefits on top of that such as WFA. |  | | |

It was a reply to a cliam that a pensioner had to sell their home to pay for care.
Pensioners can work if they want too. Many do. |
They have worked long and hard enough especially if they've been manual workers, those who have sat on their arse's for 40 years still have plenty left, 48yrs manual work does a lot of damage to the body I can tell you, back, knee's elbows etc. got to the stage where Im' limping some days, those cheeky b......'s in government raising the retirement age means I've got to work until I'm nearly 67.

Nobody (I don’t think) wants a race to the bottom. It’s more in the situation we’re in with services on their knees and tax take needing to rise, where should it come from.
I don’t want to see hard up pensioner’s lives being made worse, but as a whole group, they’re one of the best off in society.
A lot of it is down to property. Older people have this asset and it’s out of reach for many younger ones. | | | |

Why is it out of reach? Plenty of properties avaliable around Swansea for 100k so I'm sure a mortgage would be less than paying rent | |

I'm all for care staff earning better money, got carers who call here twice a week for the youngest, one is a qualified nurse though the other her assistant, but we used to have just carers here,
But whatever carers earn as nothing to do with pensioners and I'm sure the majority if not all pensioners would like to see carers get better wages, but that's down to the companies they work for, they seem to do very well out of supplying staff, there should be and NVQ for carers at least then they'd have a qualification which may help.
That said we had carers when my Mother was seriously ill and some just went through the motions, not all were that keen to do much. | |

It's not about that to me. It's about the suggestion that public sector workers don't deserve the pay rises they're being awarded under labour when they fall way behind the % equivalent rise of the state pension due to the triple lock.
I don't begrudge pensioners anything, but the fact of the matter is that we can't afford the triple lock. | | | |

Some maybe the best off, but the point you are missing is the fact they've worked 40/50 yrs of their lives so why should they be??
