It seems an absolute age since our last league games against Carlisle United which ended in a 0-0 draw.
Tomorrow sees 17th place Col U with 11 points from 10 games against 21st place Cheltenham Town with 10 points from 11 games. So, on paper another winnable game and indeed three points are required to start to move up the table.
Michael Flynn brings the Robins, with a possible appearance from Harry Pell. But our nemesis Ryan Bowman and Matty Taylor are amongst the Robins strikers. Bowman whether at Exeter, Shrewsbury or wherever always seems to score against the U’s.
Of course, whenever I think about Cheltenham I automatically think about Steven Gillespie. We signed him for £400,000 from the Robins and he scored 25 goals in 98 appearances despite a wretched injury record. He still watches the U’s when we play in the North West and he was always one of my favourites.
The week off for International break has certainly benefitted the U’s. The players had a couple of days rest and DC will have had several days to prepare for this vital game. I am however not sure whether Edwards and Bishop are fit enough to start at home to Cheltenham.
Taylor, McDonnell and Donnelly should all be back and raring to go after their respective International Matches.
I reckon a home victory and a six-goal thriller with a 4-2 scoreline.
Team:
Macey
Kells Flanagan Iandolo
Egbo Read Woodyard Payne
Gordon Taylor Tovide
Subs
Smith Hopper Scully Donnelly Goodliffe McDonnell Anderson
Weather will be 15 degrees Celsius, a slight breeze but showery.
Attendance just over 4,200 with perhaps 140 from Gloucestershire.
DC says that we should already have 18 points and I’m not going to argue but we have to earn those points and only a decent and positive performance is required tomorrow at fortress JCS.
Enjoy the game
Up the U’s

After Tovide went off, our attacking threat was almost gone. So we probably needed to rely on set pieces. And who has been one of our best from set pieces? Goodliffe, who of course stayed on the bench...

Well that was rubbish by any measure, and against a poor Cheltenham Town too. We just didn't seem to have an idea second half. Chesterfield on Tuesday night is going to be a tough one, which probably means we'll go on and win it.
I expect an ultra-defensive set-up on Tuesday - perhaps the 5-3-2 that was used at Port Vale.

DC bleating that Tovide didn’t get any protection from the ref FFS.
Whose fault is that? You’ve let him carry on his pathetic play acting all season, trying to con the ref time and time again and now, understandably, refs walk on to the pitch thinking the number 9 is not fooling me today.
What do the 1001 backroom staff at Florence Park actually do? Why has nobody been able to coach the stupidity out of this grown man and get him to realise he is going to waste his career?
Everyone needs to step up to the plate at Chesterfield and give 110% for the team, if not we could be in line for a real pasting.
…and as for calling for DC’s head, who are we going get to replace him? Wayne Brown? Steve Ball? Maybe it’s Deanos turn?
No self-respecting manager will want a career wrecking job at a club where it’s sell, sell, sell to prop up a failing academy that will not give you a single player that’s good enough. There’s no point changing managers, it will just be the same.
It’s the way the club is run that needs to change, but it won’t.

This is the past is 100% true… about the running of the club. But the chuckle brothers have been backed…. They can’t always control who is sold but they can who they buy… it’s league 2 pace energy and fitness will get you results… we buy a load of 30+ guys that have played for him before… he doesn’t reward a good performance from a player with more playing time. He takes players off that are running the game.
Guys a talker all that sparkles is not gold. Other clubs sell players… you’re reliant on the manager to Bring in other players…. RC has put his hand in his pocket for these mugs. Only mistake he made was to back the wrong manager.

I wouldn't disagree about DC, IMHO he's not much more than a motivational coach and the numerous poor signings may well be down to him, but has he been backed? I don't see it.
The club has trousered a small fortune in the last year or so selling numerous players and almost everything we've signed has been a freebie, that no one else wanted. That doesn't sound like backing someone. That sounds like trying to recuperate your losses.
How has anyone been putting their hand in their pocket? We couldn't find the money to keep Smith or McGeehan and we sold Bradley when it's obvious we need him.
Would he have signed his 'old boys' if the money from sales had been avaialble? I doubt it. It's been confirmed that incoming cash has gone to feed the white elephant.
As for backing the wrong manager, the same arguement could be used for most of the appointments over the last 18 years, so why will the next one be better? There is only one constant throughout our never ending demise.
At least with DC/NC we should survive, whereas another cheap, crap, internal appointment and it's good night Vienna.

Agree about Tovide's antics. But he did get rough treatment at times yesterday. The amount of shirt pulling that went unpunished was a joke. Mainly by Cheltenham. And the ref had absolutely no interest in throw ins being taken from where the ball went out - Cheltenham stole 20-30 metres almost every time. Having said that, we didn't lose because of the ref, but due to diabolically bad defending... again

Indeed, the only certainties in life are:
taxes
death
..and shit refs in L2.
If we want to survive we need to learn to live with that. The four teams that get promoted this year will face shite refs, get rough treatment and still come out on top.
On Tuesday, we need men that want to play for the club, not trying to get an Oscar for best supporting actress.

I think he’s a defender?
EDIT: Just read he is a right winger. Not sure his political views are relevant though!

Oscar Thorn is a great prospect. I’d wager he starts on Tuesday. Thrown in the deep end earlier than fate might have expected, but I think he can deliver. Fast, good feet, knows where the goal is.
Question is, is he yet robust enough for Division Two thuggery and the lack of protection from referees? I’m looking forward to his debut.

Ex Naarich academy, he’s 21 in March, never played in the league. Played 14 times in Nat League South, no goals and no assists. First impression, if he’s got any talent, he’s managed to keep it well hidden.
……but Joey Taylor was also a carrot cruncher reject and he didn’t get a league start until he was Nearly 20. If Thorn turns out half as good he’ll do fine.

Let’s hope he has a better career than another Ex Nodge striker who we signed - Adrian Coote . U’s spent an afternoon at the Shabby, trying to put one one a plate, only for the barn door to shut !

Adrian Coote, out and out striker, 34 games, 4 goals, his only plus point was that he wasn't Jamie Moralee.
Let's not forget that Cureton came through the Naarich yoof team.
Reminds me of when we got stuffed 5-1 at Carrot Road and Cureton got a hat trick against us.
The faithful were giving him serious abuse, with allegations of self-gratification, only for one of our ranks to shout out "Please refrain from using the C-Word,............ especially now the c##t has scored a hat trick"
