Naughty boy Ivan Toney on 19:57 - Dec 21 with 4374 views | numptydumpty | The question is after all his dodgy investments was he a very much more wealthy man. Or was he like Paul Merson after a stellar 20 year premiership career, England caps and now 10 to 15 years of punditry, still living in a small rented terrace. Gambling generally a curse that some people seem to be drawn to, no matter what the consequences. I know it's all against regulations of his job but if he not backed himself or team he plays for, why is a pundit allowed to do this but a player will literally get the book thrown at them... Naughty boy Ivan Toney on 20:47 - Dec 21 with 4269 views | stainrods_elbow | Perhaps I'm a simpleton, but, given that it would be naive to think corruption in football isn't endemic, why can't anyone, players, fans, or tea ladies, bet on/against anyone? Just us long as they're always doing their best of course (yeah, right).

My old man used to gamble constantly, but it was only for pin money back then, and it used to give him an excuse to walk the 15-20 mins to the bookies twice a day. With the wall to wall opportunities to gamble nowadays,it’s very easy to spend much more than you can afford to lose, but like any addiction it’s a hard habit to break. Also it seems to be the social thing to do to have a bet on the football or horses with your mates in the pub. Seeing as I don’t have mates,a pub or a bookies local to me I’ve managed to steer clear of that way of losing my money. Good luck to anyone battling their demons.

Well in nearly every case listed on the FA site, the person betting lost money overall. The rules are there for all to see - they get told, clubs get told, posters etc produced every now and then. As per the guidelines above, seriousness is in this order - betting on own team to lose, betting on own team to win, betting on matches in a competition your team plays in, betting on other football. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

While Scunny have been into the ground and to the point of extinction, Peter Swann is in dispute with Apollo Bookmakers, a firm he was recruited to by an agent in a casino who earned a commission on his losses. Apollo allowed him to gameble extensively on credit, and he's done that to the tune of £20m since 2018...

When you say "private gambling company" does that mean they fall outside the jurisdiction of the body that has handed out hefty fines to mainstream bookies? I didn't realise credit betting actually existed anymore - again on the mainstream sites you have to use a debit card.

No idea, go through that thread and the documents. It's made stuff. It says he was recruited by an agent in a casino, who offered him a line of credit at a private bookie, which he then used to the tune of £20m, and whose liabilities seem to consist entirely of the debt he owes them. Sounds shady as fck.

Wow! Very neatly summed up! In much the samw way some of the cases on the FA web site are funny. The guy who ended up with 12 years, when he was actually submitting a defence denied he had placed the bets himself, before trying the line that he didn't know it was 'illegal' to place the bets. As the FA pointed out, if he believed he was doing nothing wrong, no need to deny placing the bets! Don't need to be much of a legal expert to spot the flaw in that defence!

Toney remains a belligerent diving c-ck who spends a lot time on the floor but he was excellent, a proper centre forward and Spurs couldn’t handle him. Would be a shame if this derails his career completely

Naughty boy Ivan Toney on 13:33 - Dec 27 with 1871 views | davman | Typical FA letting him carry on playing despite the fact he will get banned for a minimum of 18 months if they are consistent (although that is hardly their watch word). Been told that they are holding off as there may be more instances yet to be uncovered. Well, you know, charge and sentence him for what you do know then add extra on for what else you find. How long does it take in a competent organisation?

You are right, it was probably wrong to say it that an 18 month was fact. It could well be longer.

Could well be but like you I have no idea about the bets placed.Incidentally Barton’s ban was reduced to 13 months and he had placed four times as many bets as Toneys alleged and at 36 his career was as good as over.If you look at previous bans for this there is nothing to go by.He will no doubt get a ban but whatever it is It will be a set back but sure we will cope ok without him.

Or that he is guilty. We can accuse the FA of many things but ignoring our most important legal right - innocent until proved guilty isn't one of them. Clue to the poster's thoughts may be found in the line - "charged and sentenced" - there is usually the small matter of proving guilt or not that usually comes in between those two!

Can't agree there is nothing to go by. You can search the cases on the FA's web site. Search by cases involving betting and there are pages and pages and pages of them!

You are right, it's not a FACT as this is the FA, but as others have shown, the precedent has been set and in any law Court or within any COMPETENT organisation, you go to previous cases to set the precedent. Toney has more proven counts than Barton did, but admittedly doesn't have Saint Joseph's previous, but that seems to be the bar. Irrespective of whether it ends up being a month or 24, the point is he has broken rules and WILL be banned, so why is he still playing. Take those red and white tinted specs off for a minute and look at this impartially. It isn't gonna work out well for you or him, is it?
