If the investigation has been going on for 18 months then there is your answer. Cannot believe the stupidity of humans though. After some research these are the factors considered
- Overall perception of impact of bet(s) on fixture/game integrity;
- Player played or did not play;
- Number of Bets;
- Size of Bets;
- Fact and circumstances surrounding pattern of betting;
- Actual stake and amount possible to win;
- Personal Circumstances;
- Previous record — (any previous breach of betting Rules will be considered as a
highly aggravating factor);
- Experience of the participant;
- Assistance to the process and acceptance of the charge.
Few examples - Chairman of a Non league club got 40 months for 8 years of bets totalling £275K staked
Player got 6 months for 474 bets over 8 years
The most serious was a non league player who bet on himself to get booked (among numerous other bets) inc his own team to lose - this is considered 'match fixing' and he got 12 years ban from football - he DID in the end refuse to engage with FA, which added to the punishment of course.
In summary and to help Clive's BP re the 'legals' - many many factors to be considered before speculating on Mr Toney's punishment - assuming of course he is found guilty. | | | |
