FIFA World Cup thread. 12:02 - Nov 15 with 142846 viewsSnipper

I’m trying to get excited about this World Cup, but to no avail :-((.

I’ve just watched Sky Sports World Cup preview with Gary Neville, Jamie Redknapp, Jamie Carragher & Karen Carney. Utterly depressing viewing. Same old, same old. Picking players for the starting XI not playing for their clubs, or totally off form.

I’m hoping this thread can get the juices flowing.

Do any of you think England have a chance?

Well it certainly feels like your day when you give the ball away, they hit the post, you give it straight back to them, they hit the other post, and then the goalkeeper saves the rebound from 5 yards out despite being sat on the floor.

Trying to win an important game by constantly passing the ball to an opponent on the edge of your own box feels like something QPR would try.

A Wales fan interviewed during the game: "The post has been our best player".

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Now that Senegal have this won they might as well give Seny some minutes right?

I thought the Welsh "experts" were very generous to their team.

"The first half was even & Iran just shaded the second half"! Iran were easily the better team in the first half & streets ahead after the break.

I thought Ramsey was better than Bale & that Bale should have been taken off (not started either), but that tells more about Bale than it does Ramsey! Bringing Allen on to replace their best player was laughable & ended up with him giving the ball away for both goals. Still, he covered more ground in his minutes on the pitch than the other two combined.

Iran to repeat their 1998 victory over the USA & qualify?

Time and time again, footballers who never learn to keep their gobs shut, and show a bit of respect to their opponents, end up looking mugs.

If memory serves, Bale gave it the big 'un during Euro 2016 about England and looked the gimp he is when we beat them. Just glad (and hope) England continue to act with a bit of common sense.

Thought the US looked decent the other night and I'm sure England will show them due respect.

They’ve been making such a fuss about Allen playing and yet he was at fault for both goals. Gave the ball away east for the first and made a hash of the challenge for the second.
Iran looked good in the second half, certainly no mugs and fully deserved the win.

This Gakpo bloke looks like he could be a decent replacement if Chris Willock goes in January.

Sutton predicted that Wales won't get out of the group. He may well be proven correct.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one wondering why Wales were making such a fuss of getting Allen fit. He's long been a pale shadow of the player he once was.

I'm still trying to work out why Mount is preferred over both Foden and Grealish

I was just going to post to ask if anyone could explain to me the purpose of that North Battersea cûnt. Absolutely shîte.

We are being given a fcuking lesson.... should be 2 down...... have nothing up front.... midfield is totally over run.... Southgate needs to shake this up

Yes, we definitely need Foden (or Grealish) out there instead of Mount. We desperately need a midfield who can play and run with the ball and not just lay it off. But a big problem for me is that there is nothing coming of our playing it out from the back. When it is shifted from centre back to centre back. It sets the whole tempo for our game.

Criminal and a waste of space , other teams must laugh at us when we play him instead of foden or Grealish
Also trippier has been woeful

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Come on England, don`t let us down.

Its just been tempo mostly, not enough urgency. We've seen it enough times with QPR in the last couple of years, we should be used to this by now. America tired badly v Wales, if they do that in the second half against us then that is the time to unleash Grealish, Foden and Rashford then punish them

Back turgid Southgate play uber safe sh!t. We are playing USA....kind of part timers. Defence looks static and midfield non-existant. So disappointing. No team will fear us if he plays this line-up, shape and attitude.

Very impressed with Robinson for USA at left wing-back. Plays for MK Dons I think, surely should be playing at a higher level?

What the hell does Southgate see in Mount every second touch is a tackle.

Tripper just summed us up ... Good ball out by Pickford found him in space.... instead of bombing forward he stops and plays it back.... this is so bad
