I have full faith in the club that they won't just sign anyone for the sake of it, and will only do so if it is someone who can genuinely improve the squad. So if we don't sign anyone today I'm OK with it. No point "adding quality" if it is someone who ends up not actually playing very much, as a lot of clubs seem obsessed with doing.
As mentioned recently with the Twitterati being constantly obsessed by transfers, I see all this manic movement every January where players move all over the place and pretty much all of the clubs end up no better than they actually were before all the movement took place. And then five/six months pass to June/July and it starts all over again.
*EDIT* - There are obviously some exceptions to this - us 12 months ago being a very pertinent example. But I do believe that is very much the exception to the norm. I mean, we did this in 2012 with Hughes and we were still crap and stayed up by a whisker, which we might have done anyway without spending gazillions. [Post edited 31 Jan 2022 11:16]

If we are to sign Patterson, given he is I assume in Wales, we would I guess need to agree this pretty sharpish (think we actually bother with medicals now, unlike in the Harry days).
Still, if it doesn't happen, just compare how good our squad is already compared to the desperation of the last Jan transfer window. As for that attacking midfielder most of us want to see, I am starting to wonder if he is already in the building: Luke Amos. | | | |

I'm perfectly happy with us not signing anyone else. With Sanderson signing, McCallum and Odubajo coming back, Chair returning, and Dykes also staying fit (and now scoring) we have decent cover all over the pitch, and particularly strong cover in midfield.
In an ideal world we would have slightly better striker options, that could be the different between play offs and automatic, but its not like we can go out and sign anyone better than we have without spending a lot of money.
If we succeed now and others like Bournemouth and Forest don't after splashing extra money it will be even more satisfying. |  | | |

But as far as I can see he'd be here to supplement Illy and Willy, in which case given how well we've done during the AFCON and the fact that Chair is coming back, rested and (I hope) fully fit, then we definitely should not be jeopardising our wage structure or balance sheet.

It's a really tricky window for us I think.
We have probably vastly over exceeded expectations at this point and seem to be on a role results wise, even when not playing well. We also now have players returning from tournaments and injury which we can see from the "Field effect" feel effectively like new signings.
At the same time, with other around us seemingly splashing the cash with gay abandon, we may have to improve further to keep this up. Temptation will be to add a few more players to try and give some more options/depth, but cant see us doing that for any price or for those that are not a significant improvement on what is a very solid squad. Perhaps one more in at best and maybe a few more of the U23/fringe out on loan would be most likely I'd guess. |  |

Bournemouth are still interested in signing Phillips’ Liverpool team-mate Neco Williams as well.

We'll be back to playing one up I'd imagine, so I'm really not seeing where the gaps are.
The only thing we lack across the squad is pace, so unless we can bring in someone whose young and really pacy, I'd leave as is. |  | | |

Probably forgot which player starting with an ‘N’ that they wanted to sign from Liverpool. It’s a bit like supermarket sweep. Just chuck them all in the trolly.
I don’t mind our rivals signing lots of players on deadline day. It’s a sign of desperation and we all know it rarely works out well when you make an avalanche of new signings in one window. |  | | |
