Can not understand why some think we conned the ref or was lucky.... the pen could have gone either way if not given you could say there wasn't that much contact...... but there was contact and whether small or large it was given
For me we deserved it and great that we won and though I feel for Denmark I'm glad it was us and not them in the final
So we may have had the rub of the green on the penalty..... it happens. Like the Lampard goal against Germany and other decisions that have gone against us...... and other decisions that have gone for us....... this was one of the fors and I love it

You're dead right in all you say, we had the vast majority of the chances and possession, this time we got a bit lucky with one decision (looked suspiciously like a weak ref playing the percentages - two tight pen decisions so having given the Danes the benefit of the doubt on one we got it on the next) - so it goes, the Danes fought hard but the best team won and for my money the two best teams are in the final. |  | | |

In real time I thought it was a dead cert but the replays were so tight.
If that was against us I don’t think I’d be happy. Shame it had to go down to a pen as we were so much on the front foot last 15 mins of the 90 and first half of ET.
With the Danes down to ten men in the last 15 we had chances to get a third I think and lessen the situation over the pen but you can see why they did it but boy would we have looked foolish had the Danes equalised.
Still, that’s all done now and lets just hope they don’t think getting to the final is job done.

IMHO Denmark’s gamesmanship of wasting time from the off whenever they could with Schmeical setting the tone was much more unsavoury then a disputed penalty decision which was given after Var
They wasted time for as long as possible when one of their players went down were obviously hoping to nick a goal from a set play or playing for penalties. |  |

Some great performances last night and we deserved to win the game. Sterling has been brilliant this tournament and Kane has come alive since his goal against the Germans. My England man of the match last night was Luke Shaw, he has been superb in all the games he has played in. In my mind, maybe biased but the 2 best teams from each side of the draw have got to the final. Never a pen in my opinion and a bit embarrassing tbh and the laser pen was a bloody disgrace. (I can see people being searched now before the final).
On the plus side I thought the challenge on Kane was a pen. Overall we deserved to win the game but Denmark are such a well coached team and should be massively proud.

I think there are two approaches being taken on this thread, each valid in their way.
One focuses on the winning goal and thinks Sterling went down looking for it and maybe it wasn't there. (It's not as clear that it wasn't a pen as some are saying, but it's a reasonable argument.) Same sort of argument as the Russian Lino.
The other (where I am) says all matches involve luck - deflections, referee error (and the ref's human, as are the VAR blokes), injuries, slips and slides....To win you have to dominate and make sure that you have more chances for the luck to go your way than the other side. That's the way I look at '66 - watch the whole game and England were the better side for 120 minutes and blaming it all on one decision is excuse-making. This is how you tell which side is best which is the whole point. Sometimes even then the best side loses (hi there Rinus Michels), that's part of the drama.
The Danes were a credit to a small nation without a major football league and who knows what they'd have been like with Eriksen but on the night England were better. Over the tournament we have emerged as a team who can go toe-to-toe with anyone, tbh I don't think Denmark could honestly say they can match Italy, they'd probably be hoping for penalties. | | | |

On the balance of play England were the far superior side for most of the game, and certainly in the second half onwards, the Danes barely had a sniff, so very much deserve to be in the final.
I felt at one point we needed a headcount on the pitch as it just seemed like there were millions of Danes in the penalty box every time England attacked.
