Pompey's defence has a far superior record to Saints in the PL 16:01 - Feb 16 with 2833 views | Slacker | Pompey of League One : conceded only 380 in the premier League Southampton of the Premier League : 1,186 I wonder why that is ? How can that be? Pompey have played 266 games in the PL and Saints 833. Southampton goals scored: 1019 (To be increased by the end of this season) Pompey goals scored : 266 (Not likely to increase any time soon) MIND THE GAP
Pompey's defence has a far superior record to Saints in the PL on 16:11 - Feb 16 with 2805 views | 130yrs_and_one_Cup | Comparing the two club's top flight history, we have the following win ratios Pompey 35.69% Soton 32.99% So, a clear 2.7% difference, which equates to 1 win a season, or 3 points. This little statistic is almost certainly why Pompey have been a top 4 club five times, whereas Soton have only ever been a top 4 club once in their history. I doubt whether Soton will EVER close the gap. Mind the gap, and watch it keep growing, oh yes!!

Predictably you moved the goal posts yet again !! We are talking Prem here, as the OP stated. You know, where you have only had 7 seasons in it and we have only had 7 seasons out of it. The gap is indeed growing......

Top flight stats are top flight stats, regardless of any name changes. Football didn't begin in 1992

At least most of us on here were alive to witness our top 4 finish. Anyway, what's happening with the long-awaited Milton End redevelopment? When's the wattle & daub arriving?

Yes, unlike the amount of fans who witnessed you FA cup win, which will certainly be a club minority. Whereas around 90-95% of all Pompey fans have seen the club win the FA cup. Oh yes! [Post edited 17 Feb 2021 13:15]

If that is the definition of a gap, it's one I'm happy to live with. You lot can continue sitting with your hands in your mac pockets in that p1ss stinking (literally), squalid pit getting excited about League 1 dross and dreaming about the "good old days". Meantime I will happily sit at St Mary's and enjoy watching the Saints playing in the PL.

Pompey's defence has a far superior record to Saints in the PL on 13:11 - Feb 17 with 2421 views | 130yrs_and_one_Cup | Another reason why Pompey are superior in the top flight, is that they have scored a lot more goals per season. Pompey score just under 1.5 goals a game. Soton are only just above 1.3, a massive gap That equates to almost a whole extra goal every five games, and unless your team start scoring again, the gap will be widening. Mind the gap

What a devastating stat, Pompey have scored more goals in the top flight than us !!! But you fail to put this in context, most of your top flight football was in the 1930's40's & 50's whereas ours was in the 60's onwards. Back before the 2nd World war the goals scored per game was far far more than in the modern game, in 1931 Arsenal won the league scoring 127 goals, one of three teams to get into triple figures they conceded 59, when they won the title in 1971 they scored 71 goals and only conceded 29. Truth is up to the early 60's a lot more goals were scored per game by all sides not just Pompey . so it stands to reason a team that played most of it's football in the top flight over 60 years ago is going to have scored more We dont mind the Gap at all, in fact we quite like it since I was born Pompey have only spent 8 seasons in the top flight and in 60 seasons you have finished above us only 6. times So there is the gap ! sadly it is highly unlikely you will be able to live long enough to be able to make the same boast.

Bloödy hell Nick, for a minute there i thought i read that you were 'born in Pompey' (luckily having re-read that sentence it was my daft initial interpretation). [Post edited 17 Feb 2021 19:29]
