Ferdinand Out 10:40 - Dec 27 with 9669 views | 1JD | Recruitment is the chief responsibility of the DOF role, and at QPR it is simply not good enough. 8m spent back in Les Ferdinands first summer, 8m spent again this summer, when we finally had money again- both a complete shit show. Contracts are also the key responsibility of the DOF role, and again, it is not good enough- Manning and BOS both walking out the door for absolute peanuts, costing the club millions of pounds in lost revenue. Everyone can moan about the manager but we need a new and experienced DOF, fast.

Ferdinand Out on 11:52 - Dec 27 by 1JD | A player may not be a reliable source for the transfer fee? Sorry, but that’s completely nonsensical. Of course they know transfer fee. They might not be concerned with the finer details of add on clauses and payment schedules but they sure as heck know the top line figure. Which was given as 2m by Bonne himself. Even sky sports publicise total deal value as the transfer value. This is what each club has committed in revenue to the deal, whether it happens or not is another subject entirely. |
You write with such conviction, calling for the sacking of a club legend who is working in really difficult circumstances, and then you quote sky tv.

Hmm...has either manning or BOS made it? Manning made it all the way to Swansea’s bench. BOS thinking he has made it seems to be the problem.

Ferdinand Out on 13:21 - Dec 27 by bakerloo8 | Sensible post, but signing League 1 players will eventually lead only one way. |
Those figure seem more realistic than the larger ones claimed. We're hoping that players moving up from L1 (Dickie, Bonne, Thomas) are going to get better. Dykes is still trying to adapt to English football, rather than SPL. Losing Manning on the cheap seems a mistake, despite his defensive deficiencies, but how many other clubs were in for him? Remember just over a year ago, he was a regular sub at Rotherham. We had the chance to get £4.7m from BOS from Club Bruges but the payer or his agent refused to go. Is that our fault?

Ferdinand Out on 14:53 - Dec 27 with 2268 views | Hooping_Mad | Contracts are not being handled well, in fact it's a bloody shambles on that front. DOF is a former striking so coach how do we end up signing our own strikers after a 3 year wait and then settle on these two, and then tell us they don't train together ! Playing the 3rd choice keeper (no criticism of him intended) cause we've completely failed in that department again as well. A total and complete lack of ambition, and that goes well above Les so he not culpable for that but he hasn't convinced the fan base 'he' really sees the clubs future being at a high level. Which lacks ambition and aspiration to me. Someone mentioned they re-watched the four year plan and it made me think, last time when Amit arrived he free' d up the manager to do his thing by getting Flavio to leave 1st team affairs alone and we saw what a decent manager with backing could, this time round he inherited Les and is now just as culpable as Flavio was in not setting the club up in a manner or formula that not only does he know works but he presided over and built his reputation upon. Les may not be directly picking the team every week but he is filling it with dud's just like Flav and a Paladini I think it's time our owners explain what the DOF role is going to deliver going forward, and if the answer is Chris Ramsey will leave if Les goes then so be it, we will just have to replace him as difficult as that may be. That is Les's attitude to everyone else after all. Attitude and consistency does seem to be a problem, sadly the manager being a bit of a prick doesn't look like it's helping. More of the same and Amit sticks with them both and we will go down, otherwise they both need to be gone by the end of the week. Hate to say it but relegation maybe the medicine/business plan they need to finally get lost. Sorry but that does now include you too Amit. Unless of course you can clean this mess up, if you remember how.

Ferdinand Out on 13:01 - Dec 27 by bosh67 | Most fees include an add-on for performances and promotIon (no hope of that) and sell on clause. As far as I know money actually spent was more like... 1.2m Bonne - rising to £1.75m with add-ons 1.6m Dykes - rising to £2m with add-ons and sell on clause 1.2m Dickie - rising £2m with add-ons and sell on clause 250k Willock - rising £500K with add-ons 250k Amos - rising £1m with add-ons and sell on clause 200k Kelman - rising £500K with add-ons and sell on clause Free Thomas Free Wallace Thomas came on a free. So in the region of £4.7m rather than the £7-8m quoted. That's 8 players in for less than 1 x Ivan Tonie (£5m plus add ons)... Although we should have probably just bought him instead! We got £16m now for Eze rising to £19.5m with add-ons and sell on clause. We got a pretty sad £250K for Manning (not the £150K reported). Remembering we have lost Leistner, Hall, Pugh, Manning, Rangel, Eze, Luongo and Smith earlier on plus Wells and Hugill. That's 10 players that kept us in this division over the past 16 months plus BOS on his way out. Lumley may well go too to reduce wages. It's all well to shout and scream at Ferdinand but we got the world's biggest FFP fine and have had no choice but to move players on and massively reduce wages to survive. And then there is the pandemic to cope with financially. The problem is you are having to lose experienced players at this level to survive and take in players mainly talking a step up, with almost no time to really settle. Amos is out for the season, Thomas needs a lot of minutes, yesterday was Bonne and Dykes first actual game as 2 up front, Dickie is having to step up, Kelman is a kid, Willock again has virtually no previous experience at this level, Wallace is beset with injuries and is struggling to cope at this level. We can't spend £5m on an Ivan Tonie and afford to pay them. With the pandemic players of the calibre of Wells and Hugill are not being loaned out. There are no fans in the stadiums. Not sure if people really think about what the likes of Ferdinand, Hoos and Warburton are really expected to do given the circumstances of the club after the FFP fine and now the pandemic. We're kind of lucky we still have a club. Others will fall. [Post edited 27 Dec 2020 13:06]

Great post a very accurate picture of the situation. However, we do have huge immediate problems with no time to develop players until we can get out of them, if we can. We need some experienced recruits and a more pragmatic approach to try and get out of this hole. I would question whether we really need a DOF, with our financial constraints. Could the role not be split so that Chris Ramsey and Mark Warburton (or successor) share responsibility for recruitment, and report directly to the CEO. He has the responsibility for finance and could take over contracts. After all he is very experienced in football now having been at Southampton, Burnley and Leicester before us.

Understand all that but if you suppliment L1 additions with kids from the academy and not experienced high level pros then you will more than likely get relegated, and the players with any potential will be off anyway. If nothing changes then we are staring down the barrel. Someone is culpable for the mess we find ourselves in and the wishy washy vague responsibilities of management at the club is a full joke.

We've got some right but a lot more wrong and for us to succeed doing this you can't make many mistakes in the transfer market and we make too many. I also think we've become a little too obsessed with player development and less concerned with improving the team, the two can go hand in hand but haven't with us. I'd be surprised if Ferdinand is still at the club next season however this season pans out, I'm not sure if thats a good or bad thing anymore.

Whatever we think of the Owners they are still paying the bills and contributing each month to keep us in existence. Unfortunately they don't seem too interested in the club anymore. Ideally Amit would be more hands on and then we would not need a DoF. The DoF role in my opinion is not required (could be covered by Amit and Lee Hoos) and not supported through the transfers above and our ongoing decline through a poor squad and results. In my opinion Ferdinand has had 6 years to improve matters and he has not. He has bought poor players, many costing us a lot of money. We still don't have good full backs, a quality central midfielder or a goalscorer. He has recruited managers that have not met the mark or followed a clear direction. Each manager changes strategy - which should be set by the DoF. Les Ferdinand is a far bigger problem than Warburton and needs to be sacked now. [Post edited 28 Dec 2020 2:10]

We have changed managers quite a few times and still are performing the same so it can't be the manager. The only other common denominators since 2015 are Les Ferdinand, Lee Hoos and the Owners. I believe Lee Hoos has done a terrific job improving our financial position each season.

Ferdinand Out on 08:55 - Dec 28 with 1535 views | Wegerles_Stairs | Les is a sacred cow. It's surprising how many Rangers fans fell for Fernandes' ploy in appointing him as DoF but good to see that the scales are starting to fall from some people's eyes now. Nothing will change until the entire structure of the club is challenged, including the puppet chairman and DoF. Sadly, I think it's just going to be a change of manager and another period of mediocrity and increasing apathy from the fans. The fact we couldn't even round up 2,000 fans for the Stoke game (despite the extenuating circumstances) should be a warning to the board. Did we really pay more than a million for Joel 'Dubai' Lynch? Jesus wept. [Post edited 28 Dec 2020 8:58]

Fair play for taking the time to put those stats together - they look horrible! I am constantly amazed how LF gets away with it starting with our abysmal surrender when we still had a chance to stay up in the Prem. it will be interesting to see how many clubs offer him a DOF role once he moves on from us - which I hope is now. He has been truly awful as our DOF for SIX years....and a big part of why we are where we are today. People need to open their eyes.

Ferdinand Out on 09:36 - Dec 28 by paulparker | Brilliant post Some right crap signed there with no progression whatsoever in nearly 5 years |
Disagree that there has been no progression. The club is very different now to 5 years ago, we are on the right track in terms of giving players a chance and developing young players, there has been some success stories over those years. 5 years ago we were having to pay players big money to leave, that's not happening anywhere near as much anymore. I'm not going to sit here and say everything Ferdinand has done has worked and he is wonderful because he has made mistakes and I look at that summer window under JFH and think that was the one we got badly wrong and proved to be very costly The end of this summer window though did again seem good on paper, a lot of people were raving about how well we had done and were talking of the playoffs, it's amazing how quickly that has changed. For me ferdinands biggest problem has been getting the balance right between developing and having a good first team hasn't been found. Warburton last season was the closest we have come to the right formula but we were always one poor window away from that falling apart. I do think the current issues are fixable and the situation at the club is not as bleak as it looks at the moment but they need to improve and do a lot better in the transfer market. My biggest issue with the last window is not that the players aren't good enough but that so few are playing. 9 players signed in the summer only 3 of them regulars is not good enough. I get that Amos is injured but we've added Bonne, Adomah, Wilock, Kelman and Thomas and none of them look like being regulars this season. Ultimately the question is will the club have a better chance of success without Les Ferdinand and if so what would the club structure be if he goes, do we continue with a DOF approach or start again. I won't pretend to have the answer, I really don't know anymore.
