You don’t reckon Kakay at RB?

No sorry I’m in a minority of one who thinks he isn’t good enough

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

I'm undecided too. Was surprised how well he did in the lockdown games so open minded but one swallow doesn't make a wife and all that.

I think he's worth a look at but not sure yet if he is good enough, his positioning doesn't look great to me but his pace got him out of a few problems towards the end of the season.

I still have high hopes for Kane but someone needs to work on him stopping the crosses coming in, same with Manning

To be honest I think he has been great, but I have questions as to why it took him so long to break through. Like Norf says, swallows and summer, but I think he earned a go at it next season.

Amos started out great in Aug & September with everyone raving about him then faded badly through the winter months only picking up a little towards the last 3 games ,
that supposed tackle he put in that caused the WBA 2nd goal in the last game and his positioning was enough for me to to think he won’t be good enough for a championship season, if you add Kane who lets face it was second choice to a 37 year old then we do need to look at that position

Just because Wallace missed most of last season, it doesn't follow that he would do the same again this - quite the contrary in fact. Cameron, was available for virtually all last season. He missed a huge chunk of the previous season after being the victim of a nasty foul. His appearance stats for Stoke are very good when he was in favour. I don't expect him to be a regular this season, but there is no reason to suggest he wont be available. ALL players begin as 'unknowns', if they don't get a chance they will remain so. Again i think Ramkilde will be a bit part player, learning his trade from Dykes once the latter settles in, but important we don't block his progress. I suspect that if/when Eze and BOS leave, Thomas could get a good deal of game time. Shodipo is indeed injury prone and this is an important year for him, but there is no doubting his ability at this level. Big year for Smyth and Oteh too if they are to prove they can play at Championship level and both may end up going out on loan later on. I agree that Leistner is almost certain to go back to Germany and therefore we will need a commanding CB, but that, I reckon will be it.

You're way more optimistic than me.

As for Wallace, look at the last few years....

Back on topic; Ramkilde might just be a good fit alongside Dykes , both not afraid of using their body mass to bully defenders.

The grass is always greener.

Are those literal numbers, or "one or two" in the Harry Redknapp sense? Just asking.

Ya, not sure. Sounded literal, but fair point.

Wallace missed the previous 18 months football at Rangers after a much publicised fallout with the hierarchy, not because of injury. I'm not that optimistic at all, I'm not even convinced Wallace is good enough for this level based on the few games he played. He was pretty awful at home to Leeds. We may well need a left back and do need a CB. However, having completely revamped the side last season, and with a much smaller window (between seasons I mean) I think it is unrealistic to expect wholesale changes. As Clive says, maybe if we bank 20M + or Exe/BOS then we can splash out a bit. But you just know if clubs think we are flush they will start asking silly money for average players and we don't want to go down that road again

Hmmm... I'd be surprised if Kakay makes it at this level.

Positionally he's a bit all over the place - not good for a full back - but could potentially be rectified with the right coaching and he shows an aptitude to learn.

Technically he's poor, a gangle of legs at times - and that could be a terminal issue at this high a standard.

Apart from that he has some good strengths, he's very committed, has great attitude, never hides, had lots of pace and puts in a hard tackle. He can also carry the ball forward well at times.

So for me he is still very very raw and it's going to take some serious polishing and major major strides for him to make it above League 1.

It's too early to know if Kakay will be a long term solution, but equally it's too soon to write him off. Likewise, to write of Kane because he was playing second fiddle for part of the season is being unfair to him and disingenuous to Rangel. Rangel was a top pro, who played for years at a very high level and even though he had slowed down considerably could still read the game like a book. Is Kane as good as Rangel? Of course not or he wouldn't be here. Will he ever be? Maybe not, but with a bit of encouragement and good coaching he can improve and be a solid championship defender.
When I was a much younger man than today, Liverpool's Man City's Bayern Munich's and PSG's recent achievements would have been derided as 'buying the title'. I recall that just such an accusation was levelled at Blackburn. Now it is the norm to just go out and buy the best players. That's why, even though I am no fan of the man or team, what Ferguson achieved at Utd with Giggs, Beckham et al was phenomenal; actually developing young players and having the time and patience to make them into a top top team. It's not rocket science to figure out that if you replace with Karius with Alisson or Agger with Van Dyke you are going to concede less goals. But coaching an existing goalkeeper or CB to defend better - that's a different matter.

While Dobbie may have been the Doonhamers’ Batman, it became clear Dykes was Robin, Alfred, Lucius Fox, James Gordon and, heck, Selina Kyle all rolled into one.

Two cracking articles. The second one is incredibly in-depth and hugely encouraging.

Agree. Excellent analysis. If that is accurate, he’s the new Heidar Helguson.
