Antibody tests to be rolled out on 13:05 - May 4 by grumpy

Has anyone asked the Germans how they appear to have this virus under control or do we think we know better?

They seem to have performed the best in Europe with regard to war on Covid.

Third time lucky I guess.

If you want to remove your political agenda ( which lefties previously used for Brexit ) where every good news story is in spite of the government and ignored ( such as increasing Ventilator and bed capacity ) and every bad news is because of the government then you might be able to look at facts?

When taking everything in to account, we are doing better than the majority of the large population European countries with the exception of Germany... although their healthcare workers don't have any PPE so swings and roundabouts huh?

Which 'large population European counties' are we doing better than. Be specific.

Italy, Spain and France for a start.

Don't just look at the number of deaths. There's a whole host of different factors to take in to account... that would be a bit simple?

I just mentioned 3 of the 4 biggest countries in the EU.

If I need to spell out to you why we aren't doing quite as bad as you hysterical tarts on the left are trying to say then I'm wasting my breath mush.

Population density matters, which is why the death rate in England is much higher ratio to population than Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland when we're all doing the same thing ( all 3 having similar density to France and Spain )

Note: I never said we are doing well, just that we're doing around the same as everyone else with the exception of Germany ( who still have their own problems though such as no PPE for their Healthcare workers )

That's not the only stuff they have been doing. This article from Nick Cohen on Saturday was right on the money.

To be honest i thought that article was a bit rich coming from one of the Centrist dicks that did all they could to prevent a Labour victory

I wonder if Galicia-Ian is on a Spanish mongboard bemoaning how Portugal is doing so well...rather than actually realising there are so many individual reasons why the virus is more prominent in certain areas/countries...we've had a far greater influx of carriers to this country from around the more infected countries....that would ordinarily mean to level headed people that it would be a consequence....by being more accepting of other citizens and non uk born arrivals but still British passport holders we have by our inclusive nature spread the virus nationwide.

Still taking into account this very important factor isn't even considered by idiots that just want to apportion blame to those in government.

I’m not sure what your point has to do with being late to lockdown, messing up PPE provisions and testing and leaving those in care homes out on a limb?

I will reiterate that I have no intention to further converse with you due to your polarised political biased nature and inability to accept or even acknowledge the far wider and more significant challenges that this country has been subjected too.

You choose to relentlessly lambast the government for every single aspect that suits your agenda. .the fact is we are under significant pressure and are coping as is clearly possible to the best of our abilities with the provisions that are available globally ...

I really have no desire to have any more interaction with you on this subject...football related of course...but that only.

You mentioned the three countries - Italy, Spain and France - who have also not done well. We are not doing better than them, we are at best on a par with them. In fact, we have overtaken France and Spain in terms of recorded deaths and are now only a few hundred behind Italy. Soon, we will be second only to the US.

How anyone can characterise this as anything other than bad is completely beyond me.

And, yes, additional information in the future may paint a different picture, maybe other countries have under reported, maybe we will come out of the lockdown in a sustained manner while other countries hit second peaks. Who knows. For the moment, approaching the runners up spot in the worldwide table, a bit of realism and humility wouldn't go amiss.

We are doing better than them, not that your politically biased mind will be able to process that.

Spain 544 deaths per 1 million population.
Italy 488
France 381
UK 419

Population density ( I know you are ironically dense so I will break it down after )

England 430
France 117
Spain 91
Italy 207

Now allow me to explain. You put Coronavirus in a room with the breakdown of people above. Which country do you reckon gets the most individual cases?

There are loads more factors, such as hardly any countries counting deaths in the community, yet we are. Despite loads of countries only declaring those who have died BECAUSE of Coronavirus and not simply WITH as we are.

Keep spouting your anti-tory agenda though, it won't stop Boris being in charge for the next 5 years or us leaving the EU

What has Boris being in charge in five years or us leaving the EU got to do with Corona?

You’re in denial, there’s no other way to explain your complacency.

But here’s another question before I hang up my boots for the day. If it was so obvious that a densely populated country like ours would be hit hard by this, why were the scientists talking early doors about possibly less than 20,000 deaths and, why, more to the point weren’t areas of high population density locked down or social distancing introduced much much earlier? You can’t have it both ways fella.

(I won’t even ask how a densely populated country like South Korea managed to deal with this so much more effectively than we did.)

Look past the inseccant need to aportion blame and acknowledge due to our global outreach and multiculturalism we are a hub for this virus to exacerbate and cause more devastation than in any other European country...then if that slowly becomes a reality that you can accommodate...move forward and accept that due to this wonderful country being one of the most accepting and welcoming destinations on the planet that it will sadly be on the top of the list for infections globally...if you can't relate the two then there is absolutely no point in trying to lay blame...it makes you look incapable of parallel acknowledgment...and knowing you over many year's on this forum I know that is most definitely not true.

I had a quick look back at your posts on just this thread. I was looking for some perspective.

I found out that increased testing should reveal the true number of infections. I also found out that you had been in ill back in December.

I will pay more attention in the future - I didn't know what I was missing.

Mine too. It's all the fighting metaphors that are really getting to me. Absolutely no acknowledgement that we've become one of the worst countries in the world for this virus. It's all about our plucky struggle against the unseen assailant/street mugger/invisible killer. Ridiculous.
