White Denim, the most prolific band on the planet. The Alan Shearer of the music world. Scored a billion goals but what did he ever actually do? I've found much of their recent offerings a bit meh but quite like this one. Trash rock. Scrunch it up and throw it away.
Sigrid's debut album dropped on Friday, I think she's a real talent. I went along to her promo gig a few weeks back where she demoed a couple of unherard tracks in an acoustic set, she certainly has some voice live.
Anorher of my personal faves if you like a bit of Americana country- Ryan Bingham's new album out last month, American Lovesong. Again a newer sound for him but a great album. Will be going to see him next month at the Union Chappel in Islington.
New album by Desperate Journalist is excellent. Pretty sure they’d be better known if they had a better band name!
Good lord, that is a terrible name. Second only to this lot. (Song from last year but fk it, it's a banger and I'm making a point).
Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.
I like this. It's on the cusp of being poncey bullshit modern day metal but it's good enough to just about get past my frankly unreasonable filters.
OH AND THIS ABSOLUTE BELTER (late-ish 2018 but I just found it).

It's not post metal, blues or thrash, it is just - in my humble opinion - spell-binding music from musicians who have been doing it purely for the love of it since 1984. "On The Third Day Arrived The Crow" and "Night Falls" are hauntingly beautiful.
Anyhow, talking about music is like dancing about architecture, so I'll stop there.
"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Saw Fontaines DC playing a free lunchtime gig at Rough Trade in Bristol. Really impressed, have listened to the album a couple of times today and really rate it. Took my son along too and he had a great time. Better than my first gig anyhow (Simply Red at Wembley Arena with my mate's Dad's work social club!)
Bonus nostalgia points cos the singer looks and dresses like 90% of barmen in N/NW London circa 1993.
If you like that you will love this! Not from 2019 and the singing is in Swedish but those tunes! Man alive, they just keep coming, cracker after cracker!

Excellent. Will be a busy man tomorrow.
"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."
Anyway, The Heavy. Cracking new song from their upcoming album.
This is GREAT.

+1 for Fontaines DC
Often likened to the Fall. Gaining traction now. Played fairly regularly on BBC Radio 6 Music. Debut album released this month.
Signs of life from Tool: Over 13 years since the last one, they are now playing tracks from their new album at gigs, to wit:
"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."
OMG what is this? Immense stoner doom, like a giant stomping on the roof of your house. No screaming vocals, no lightspeed riffing, just dynamics and heaviness. Gosh
