For any Dale fan who remembers Dave from his work with the youth team at Spotland, he sadly died yesterday.after a short illness. Dave was of course Stephen Bywaters dad.

Was a very good friend of my dads, he only lived up the road from me as a kid, met him many times, top bloke and loved the club dearly. RIP Dave. Thoughts with the Bywater family

RIP

Stephen played for Burton yesterday, looked like he had a good game too despite the 2-0 result against Forest.

Did the family have Bywaters Travel a few years ago?

They did.....

Dave told me he drove the Rochdale team bus to Norwich for the 2nd leg of the 1961/62 League Cup final.

Dave's father Les was a Dale goalkeeper in the 40's. later a policeman who organised the traffic around Spotland on a Saturday in the 50's, and later set up the family coach company.
Knew the family well when they lived in the police houses on Meadway. Dave was a fair keeper himself, played with Leeds and Halifax reserves, I think.

Condolences to the family . RIP

I'm pretty sure I played against him in amateur football in the early to mid 1960's. If it's the same guy he was a really tall goalkeeper for those days. Well over 6 ft.

Very sad news. The family have contributed much to RAFC over many years. I remember Dave's presence and coaching at the club.

R.I.P.

Remember watching Dave play for Bacup Borough as a kid, stood out as a player and a man, sad loss.

Top class goalkeeper at amateur level. He played all in black then. Very impressive.
