West Ham Pull Out Of James Ward Prowse Pursuit
Tuesday, 1st Aug 2023 21:48

Acxcording to Sky Sports News, West Ham United have ended their interest in signing Saints Captain James Ward Prowse, due to their reluctance to pay the going rate for a player of Ward Prowse and refusing to pay more than £25 million.

It seems that James Ward Prowse will be leading Southampton out at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night after Sky Sports News revealed that West Ham United have ended their interest in buying James Ward Prowse due to the price that Saints are asking.

West Ham were refusing to go above £25 million a ridiculously low price for a player in his prime at 28 years old and an England International to boot.

It is not if the Hammers are short of money, they have trousered £105 million for Declan Rice and have not spent any of it yet.

Indeed they had bit £40 million for Chelsea's Conor Gallagher, but it seems that they just don't value James Ward Prowse that highly.

It is also reported that West Ham turned down a counter proposal from Saints, presumably a player exchange deal forming part of the transfer fee, so Southampton can't be accused of blocking the move and have tried to come to an arrangement that suits not only both clubs but also the player.

So now it looks like Ward Prowse will remain a Southampton player at least in the short term and if West Ham don't come back, then it is hard to see where he would go, none of the Big Six clubs have shown any interest, West Ham were only attractive due to their Europa League participation this season, so it is hard to see anyone outside of these clubs being willing to pay even the £25 million that Southampton have turned down.

He is very attached to the club and I can't imagine going to West Ham filled him with excitement. West Ham would have seen this and not broken the bank for a player semi committed to the move. He will absolutely shine in the Championship and I think the club are setting a good precedent that only the right money will do. "I would" still expect a top six team to come in for him as he is a class act, Mr I_Would will tell you another story however...

Hopefully he's played on a position and formation which aims to get forward quickly. He's wasted in defensive or holding positions. A truly talented team player. Big fan.

If he’s been to the West Ham training facilities (which I often pass on the train) he won’t have been impressed. Compared to the set up we have theirs looks distinctly second rate…

The other rumour is that a deal is close. Flouncing out and saying the deal is off is a negotiating tactic that is as old as the hills. As Nick says, Wet Spam is the best that JWP can do and if he wants to go there then I expect he will go there. I expect a fee roughly halfway between Saints' valuation and Wet Spam's 'final' bid will be agreed - or not...

Wet Spam think they are a big club because they are in the capital city
Moyes thinks he is a big coach because they won a Micky mouse euro tournament
The truth is they are a mid table reletavly poor club
