I dont think he does really. Husband plays left back, Feeney plays left wing. Edwards sort of plays right back, but Turton would be better I reckon.
It's not a clear system, not to me anyway. |

Much better. What a way to win a game! Still work to do to get the team right, but we now know we can compete when we put the work in on the pitch. We should keep improving, there's definitely scope for us getting better in certain parts of the team. Would like to see Gnanduillet and Hardie together. |

Why he's kept that defence I've no idea. Im pleased that Virtue and Hardie come in. If Turton had replaced Edwards I'd be ok with it. But we are weak on the left again too. [Post edited 17 Sep 2019 19:07]

It's one of those moments where the manager has to decide whether to just tweak, or go for a system change with various personnel changes. My feeling is that the side that has started the season began well but has various limitations/issues and really needs to be restructured. Larry will be worried about changing things radically as it could backfire, but you can't carry on with something that hasn't worked for several games running and has culminated in a 3-0 home defeat. Revert to last season's back 4, and you help the defence to get straight. Get another midfield player in, and help to stabilise the middle of the park, as Guy did when he was brought in a few games ago. Get more happening down the left, to take the focus away from Feeney. And get Someone like Hardie up front so that we can play through balls - we need to give the opposition much more to think about than the cross from the right to Gnandu. Play a front three with Kaikai or Scannell on the left, Feeney right, Hardie or Nuttall centre. So we can feed the ball left, right, or straight through. |

Bit rough on Kaikai perhaps but it can help a player to stand him down occasionally. And he can come off the bench. Let's get a balance to the team, and some fresh ideas. See what others can do. Create real competition. We need to be better down the left and through the middle. |

I wouldn't give up on Tilt yet! He's had a strop after being subbed. He no doubt is eager to get a big money contract, or the best he can, before its too late, having come into the football league relatively late in his career. Think he's 29 already. He knows 30 changes things. He's our best defender and will come round. To get what he wants he needs to be playing and performing well.
Larry isn't tactically the most astute but he's a good people manager and that is why he gets decent results over a period of time, I think, because success depends a lot on keeping players focused, confident and contented. He's got some work to do with Tilt now, and Nuttall I suspect, too. |

I think Larry does need to change things. The decision to drop Turton for Edwards wasnt a good one, and I'm all in favour of a back four. We did great defensively last season with Turton, Heneghan, Tilt and Bola. Just replace Bola.
More surgery is required in midfield and up front. Going to four at the back means we can get bodies in midfield. We have players who can move the ball around, Spearing, Guy, Thompson. Virtue is a bit different, more of a box to box player. We need to work out the best combination. Can Thompson and Guy pass their way through the middle, and stop the opposition? Or do we ask Virtue to break forward?
The linking up between midfield isnt working, we rely on Feeney crosses too much. How can we work the ball through the middle and down the left? Get players in scoring positions. That said we had 18 attempts yesterday. We dont have enough players who look like scoring at the moment.
I think a more mobile central striker than Gnanduillet who can make runs and receive the ball to feet would help. Hardie is that type of player. So is Nuttall. Are they good enough? Don't know yet.
We could play 433 with a wide player either side of one of those. Feeney or Hardie on the right, Kaikai or Scannell on the left. |

I think it would be a mistake to drop Turton instead of Edwards, tbh. Three centre halves is not the answer IMO. But I can see Larry doing it. He'll come back to a back four at some point, I'm sure of it! |

I think Larry might consider resting Gnando for this one to try and play a different way. Just a guess, but I think we need to adjust things and we can bring Gnu on if it's not working out.
I would try a back 4 as shown above, I'm not sure Larry will drop Edwards but I think the Heneghan / Tilt central partnership is worth resurrecting and Turton seems good at right back, and provides the cover for Feeney to attack at will.
Virtue might start, in place of Guy or Thompson - I guess Larry will look at how training has gone. Virtue would provide another different dynamic, but is probably not up to full speed yet, more likely to be used as a sub.

3 THINGS WE LEARNT ABOUT BLACKPOOL AS LATE GOAL CONDEMNS THEM TO FIRST DEFEAT
Blackpool suffered their first loss of the League One season yesterday in dramatic fashion to Coventry City.
Simon Grayson’s side threw away a two-goal lead and left St. Andrew’s with nothing after Callum O’Hare’s goal in stoppage time.
Things had started so well for the Seasiders, with two Sullay Kaikai goals putting them in a commanding position.
However, a disastrous five minute spell before the break changed the game, with strikes from Matty Godden and Wes Jobello meaning the Sky Blues somehow went in level.
With the momentum firmly with them, Coventry began to dominate possession but they didn’t make the telling contribution until the 91st minute, with O’Hare’s left footed effort deciding the game.
It was a very frustrating end for Blackpool and here we look at THREE things we learnt from their defeat…
The front four have real quality
It wasn’t all negative for the Tangerines, in fact for the first 40 minutes it was a near perfect away performance and the four attacking players were crucial to that.
Liam Feeney was a regular threat down the right-flank and he importantly produced quality on a consistent basis which saw him pick up two assists. Meanwhile, Kaikai, who started from the left, weighed in with two goals and was a constant threat.
Up top, Joe Nuttall and Armand Gnanduillet showed signs that they could develop into a great partnership as they boast pace, power and they linked up technically well.
If these four stay fit, Blackpool shouldn’t have many problems scoring goals.
Complacency crept in
Grayson was understandably furious in the way his side lost this game and he slammed them for being unprofessional after they let Coventry back into the game before half-time.
And, you have to agree with him. Even though the hosts were playing some nice football, they barely created a chance of note until the goal.
That came out of nowhere and Jobello’s equaliser meant Blackpool went in level at the break in a game they had controlled, which just isn’t good enough.
They need to keep the ball better
Despite that, they were still level going into the second half so there was no need to panic.
Yet, they allowed Coventry to dominate as the game progressed. The visitors were not as aggressive in the way they pressed and they failed to keep the ball and whilst the Sky Blues struggled to create too many clear openings, there was only going to be one winner.
Whether it was a tactical tweak or a change in personnel, something needed to happen to give Blackpool more of a foothold as they let the pressure build through poor ball retention. Experienced skipper Jay Spearing, who was strong in the first half, perhaps should have done more to ensure his side didn’t lose their grip on the clash. |

The two tackles I remember as being the most dramatic were by the same player on the same player in the same game! Stan McEwan on Steve Kindon who was playing for Wolves, late 70s. Both straight reds but the first one somehow got a yellow. Nearly killed him with the second one, and just marched straight down the pitch to the tunnel at the south end. Anybody who was there will remember it, Kindon was big and fast but McEwan did not take prisoners. Totally cleaned him out. It was a gob smacking moment. [Post edited 8 Sep 2019 20:44]

Which was a joke about how I actually did grow to dislike the ex wife more and more as the days passed by....! |
