Vale won't be playing this season & has only played left back when Barton selected him out of position!

Blades' cutting edge too sharp for Rangers' toil and chug - Report
at 10:12 3 Mar 2025

Cheers Clive.

Was Steve Cook always lacking in pace as he was on Saturday, or has this been affected by his injury? The way he was outpaced early on brought back memories of Rob Dickie!

It was probably due to the ability of their forwards, but I felt that Cook & Edwards struggled to contain them throughout the game. I also thought that we (I can't believe I'm writing this) sorely missed Paul Smyth. We badly needed his industry & pace. Saito on the left with Chair in the middle is our best option of scoring goals & hopefully we will resort to this.

Cheers Clive, I enjoyed that.

Hopefully we included a promotion clause in the sale contract with Birmingham for Dykes. Probably wishful thinking, but perhaps Birmingham reaching Wembley could be another clause.

Throw in Bristol City reaching the play offs & there might be a bit more to receive from the Armstrong transfer as well!

Stoke paying wages of over 100% to income is remarkable when you consider how much they "receive" in sponsorship!

It looks as if a breach was never a doubt then, just as you kept telling us. Well, repeatedly reassuring Beth!

Thanks for updating Simon. See you Saturday.

Cheers Simon.

I'm assuming that the increase in payments from Sky will more than compensate for the increase in wages this season. This is the price that we appear to have to pay for the lack of 3.00pm Saturday games!

1974/75 Season Memories
at 17:11 26 Feb 2025

Personally, I was very disappointed with Gordon Jago leaving & he still remains as my favourite Rangers manager. Also I wasn't impressed with Dave Sexton being appointed, but that worked out well!

I can't recall knowing that Stan had 4 transfer requests, but we did know that all wasn't well with his relationship with the club.

I moved to Suffolk in July 1974 & so my undoubted highlight of the season was winning at home to Ipswich. A bottom versus top match!

Hillsborough 2004 when I saw my son outside the ground. I was so pleased for him! Far more than I was for myself or the club!

I had a ticket for the game, but some were still available for buying on the morning of the Swindon match. I left Ipswich at 6.00am to join the queue on South Africa Road ( Iain was at Lancaster Universtity & so it was all down to me to get him a ticket & I managed to buy two, one for my wife. Despite Trish being an ex Ipswich ST holder, she watches a stream of most of our matches now! Mind you Sky Sports + red button covers half of our games!

Easter Saturday 1976. I didn't cry, but my face was ashen & I don't think I uttered more than 20 words before arriving at LR on Easter Monday morning.

I'm surprised that any club provides "free" staff lunches. I thought that facility disappeared from all companies after it was deemed as taxable for "benefit in kind".

Of couse, I'm sure that there must be multiple ways around this regulation, but it brought about the downfall of luncheon vouchers!

Paal/clueless Rs players post-match

I still can't understand why anyone pays any attention to player/manager pre & post match interviews. The chances of hearing anything other than as positive a spin as they can put on it is remote.

It's like expecting any politician to answer questions, let alone talk truthfully!

Sky will be showing "live" all EFL games on Good Friday & Easter Monday so there is less chance of it being moved than a match on a Saturday.

That doesn't rule out it being moved to 12.30 though!

Neil Warnock on Sky as a pundit for Leeds/ Sunderland
at 17:17 18 Feb 2025

It's very different to dislike Neil Warnock as to appreciating what a superb job he did as manager of Queens Park Rangers. His biggest achievement being in saving us from relegation in the 2009/10 season.

A lot of supporters of many clubs will never forgive him for his actions in the abandonment of the Sheffield United - West Bromich Albion match in 2002. After three players had been sent off for brutality (including Georges Santos) he instructed two others to feign injury so that they had to leave the pitch. This ended with the EFL awarding the match to WBA rather than replaying the game. An action that was unheard of at the time.

Before joining Rangers I regarded him as the most dislikeable manager in football, but I was pleased when we appointed him as he was the only perrson who stood a chance of keeping us up. He was excellent for us, but being very good at his job does not guarentee being liked!

Sunderland away

Yes they do have to all kick off at the same time & Sky will be showing all 12 games live.

Obviously, most will be on Sky Sports + red button, but this game has the potential to be promotion deciding. Sunderland, not Rangers!

I'm in agreement with you simmo. He certainly wasn't contributing much to the game in the first 20 minutes, but our overall ball retention was poor during this period!

I also noticed Dunne giving him a "coaching" session & he grew in to the game from that point. Or to put it another way, after Chair had scored our first goal!

By the time we reached the second half, he appeared to understand his role & looked comfortable on & off the ball. Considering that he has only been with us a short time, I was impressed with how he appears to have integrated with the other players. And vice versa!

I'm far more confident about the Sheffield United & Middlesbrough games than at Portsmouth next week!

At the very least we will win one of those matches.

QPR v Derby match thread

It is very irrational!

The three attempts you mentioned were off target & the other one was offside & it doesn't matter how marginal! That equates to one goal deby should have scored & we were four in front by then.

I would sugest that the biggest upset was Berwick Rangers 1 Rangers 0 in 1967.

With Celtic winning everything that season, it may not have been Rangers finest year!

Semi Finals?

They reached two finals & lost both to Blackburn Rovers in consectutive seasons. This was at the time when Blackburn was the centre of world football! Inside ten years they won the Cup five times & lost in another final, but Blackburn Olympic won it the year before their first victory.

Back to yesterday, I really enjoyed watching the highlights & I'm still to work out how that was a penalty. I didn't know that Liam Kelly was now plying his trade at Ibrox.
