Time to go Jim. The turning point
at 20:39 25 Feb 2025

Ah, should’ve known!

I really didn’t feel inclined to comment, as I said, I wasn’t there. He heard through a friend who was there something along those lines, I had absolutely no reason to comment on Chinese whispers.

FYI, I commented on KH’s departure from Tranmere, based on facts/league position when he left. Not many managers get sacked in a play off position, certainly in the lower leagues.

No.

My point is, and I will try again to get it through to you… KH has given us success, nobody else has or has even come close to doing on our lifetime.

We’ve tried young managers with no experience and we’ve tried older managers with experience and success at our level. None of which has worked. It’s like the only thing that will work is KH.

You keep giving me examples of others, this is your third post now trying that. These other clubs have been able to get success with numerous managers, we seem unable to do that for some reason, so why not give it a go again, that’s my point.

Go on, give me another example of clubs and managers blah blah blah.

KH Has done it on two separate occasions for us, nobody has done it for us other than him since the 60’s. Those you mention have had other significant successes. We have only known success with KH, and there’s no reason why it couldn’t happen again. We’ve tried others such as, Beech, Eyre, Coleman, Bentley, Stockdale and now McNulty, all failed quite miserably. Whereas KH has succeeded twice.

Post Rochdale… he was unlucky to be dismissed at Tranmere, I’m quite sure they were in a play off position when he was sacked. And Scunthorpe, had had no chance there and they’ve only just this season started to claw their way back up.

With regards comparing KH to Dalgliesh or Souness… KH is still of a managerial age, whereas the other 2 are in their 70’s and both retired.

And regards to the end of his tenure here… you’d be forgiven for blaming a lot of that on the issues that were going on behind the scenes in the boardroom and takeovers etc, a lot of which we are still trying to recover from now.

Give me fast flowing, attacking football any day over this drivel. A guy who has time after time also been able to spot talent and talent the club has made significant profit from, nothing of the like done since, certainly not to a similar extent.

No they don’t. The only person who has brought our club any success in our lifetime is definitely a better option than what we have had since and probably after.

I’d have him back in a heart beat. He knows how to do it. Just because certain sections of the supporters didn’t like his post match interviews! It’s a joke. He can say what he wants post match, it’s what he does on the pitch that should matter. In 35 years ish of supporting Rochdale, there’s never been better football played or anywhere near the success as when KH was in charge. To say otherwise or to say ‘get over it’ speaks volumes of those that say that. Clueless.

Why Do Managers See Different?
at 16:47 7 Feb 2025

This is a great thread! If you have possession then the other team can’t score. Players from a young age are now coached to play through the thirds, we did and often do that well, through the first 2 thirds, but often can’t create goal scoring opportunities in the final third, which was evident on Tuesday. They sat back and totally nullified us, so all that possession, certainly in the second half, was pointless. Alex Fergusson was the opposite, he pretty much always played a 442, with attacking wingers who got the ball in the box and often had 2 quality forwards to finish attacks off.

I do like the possession based play, but not sure it works always for us, when it does, it looks great, when it doesn’t, it’s so frustrating.

How I’d love to see a 442 with wingers and balls in to the box, I fear those days are long gone.

A manger will always defend the way his team plays, as ultimately, that’s due to him.

Failed to create any real chances. Anything into their box just didn’t land for us. They sat back in second half and allowed us to have possession knowing they would out muscle us when needed. They played ugly football, but it worked today. Few sloppy mistakes, and Waller kept the scoreline respectable without us being battered. Need to create more and get those killer balls to our front men. Bad day at the office without it being a dreadful performance.

I was going to ask the same, I’d guess these seats have been blanked out due to being sold for hospitality, that’s where you are seated when you do the hospitality days.

What’s the big deal with the golden share? What actually is it? Something so we can’t have our kit changed to yellow? Like the Cardiff debacle years ago? Or is it something else? Seems to be a big deal with fans and keeps being mentioned.

Pitch update
at 12:22 16 Jan 2025

The Ogdens have stumped up money to keep the club afloat short term, with a view to developing the club with the aim of making the club sustainable, regardless of on pitch success. You may as well forget a new ground as it won’t be on the Ogdens radar, or at least they won’t be paying for it. I hope I’m wrong as I’d love a new ground as I reckon it would attract a new group of fans, very very unlikely though.

Understandable maybe as the fans were hoping to push the players on to stave off relegation.

In the season we finished in our highest league position in league one, the attendance was up 14% from the previous season.

I remember a good few years back, we played Chesterfield on a Tuesday night. I think we were first and second, the gate was 5000. A small shred of evidence to help prove that crowds will increase if the product is good and we are winning games.

You can drop the price and do all kinds of initiatives, but the best way to improve those gates is by flying high in the table.

Doesn’t he still work for the club coaching one of the youth teams? I’m sure he is the coach of his sons age group, or at least he was about a year ago.
