Instead of a Boycott?
at 21:15 13 Jan 2013

I always hope that the team will want to win for the people on the terraces (ie me!), and because of this I don't shout abuse at players or boo them for poor passes etc, as I feel my role as a supporter is to, er , support.
I would much rather demonstrations of dis-content take place after the game -ie silent sit ins, or demonstrations outside the ground at the entrance. Even letters to the Chairman.
A boycott could kill our club. Do we really intend that?

How much to be chairman?
at 21:02 13 Jan 2013

I just ask myself this - if I had a choice would I have our board or Blackburns? Not much chance of your average Blackburn (or premier league club) fan having a chat with the club chairman in the pub.
I trust Mr Dunphy to do what is right for the club, he will make mistakes (who doesn't), but he did not become Chairman to asset strip the Dale, or use it as his personal plaything.
I honestly believe that Mr Dunphy will remove any manager or player who is a threat to the well being of our club. As always its a matter of timing.

Season Ticket Renewal
at 20:51 13 Jan 2013

I will be renewing my season ticket because that is the best way I can support the club off the terraces. I realised a few years ago that managers and players (with one or two notable exceptions) are mercenaries - they are here for the money. Nothing wrong with that, I only go to work for the money - sad but true. But when players kiss the badge etc, I know it is mostly just for show. If a higher level club comes in they will be off. If they are a manager they will probably take our best players with them. The one constant in and out is the supporters I stand with. Some are friends, some I just say hello to, some I just nod to, some p*ss me off, but in the main they ARE the club to me. I put my money in each season before a ball is kicked to enable the club to fund over the summer, and hopefully help pay the wages of a player who can actually pass, tackle or score depending on his role.
Now, lets take this to it's logical conclusion - we all decide not to renew this summer as a protest at the players/ manager/ board etc. The club runs out of money. Will we still have a club to come to to watch win, lose, applaud, cheer or sometimes boo or will there be an 'exclusive development of 3 bed executive houses' on the site of what used to be Spotland? If we are lucky they might name some of the roads after ex-players. Only a thought!

Thanks for your responses to my post, which were designed to get people thinking about the potential damage to our club, and were not intended to offend anyone who supports this club.
A couple of points /responses :-
No, I am not a lawyer ( If I was, I would be considerably richer than I am!) and sleep better at night for not being anything to do with this countries legal 'system'. I do take a great interest in the way that freedom of speech is under attack in this country - my ancestors are not buried in France for me to sit back and allow that to happen without some form of peaceful resistance.
No, I am not connected with the club unless you count being a season ticket holder and trust member. I am very vocal on the terraces but quiet off them, hence my lack of posts. I am in common with many of you very concerned about the way our club is going, and feel this allegation will be used by some in the town and nationally to further their agendas at the expense of the club I and you love. That was the point I obviously have not made very well in my post.
I am glad to say I will not have to either prosecute or defend this case- with our legal system, the truth is of little concern to either the defence or prosecution, merely getting the right result for their client - little to do with justice.
And believe me, doors have been kicked in of people who have posted what the establishment considers to be inappropriate comments online.
Thanks for your constructive responses - freedom of speech at work!!!

How much to be chairman?

I would imagine Mr Dunphy would welcome anyone to the board who could bring into the club a commodity that is very rare in Rochdale - money! From what I see, Mr Dunphy is first and foremost a supporter, and will be hurting just as much as any of us at what is going on at the club. When Mr Kilpatrick and Mr Morris were running the club, they used to budget for a loss of 30k per year - where did the money come from to cover that loss? Out of their pockets. I would imagine the 'donations' are much higher now.
Be careful what you wish for about the present directors walking away from the club, I don't see too many 'sugar daddies' waiting to take over our beloved club!

Last time I looked, in this country you are still 'innocent until proven guily'. I would suggest that some of the more 'offended' posters on here have their own agenda, and this ALLEGED incident has merely provided a further way of advancing their agenda. Also the law regarding defamation applies to comments published on this site - be careful, the police are just as keen on kicking down the doors of internet 'abusers' at 4 in the morning as they are of alleged racists. Freedom of speech in this country is under attack at many levels.
As far as the club not reacting more quickly, as soon as D& R reported the alleged incident to the Met the matter became a potential criminal matter. Under the recommendations of the Macpherson report, which have been implemented, the Met ARE FORCED to investigate allegations of this type. I express no opinion as to the rights and wrongs of this, apart from the fact that it has opened the door to the likes of The Society of Black Lawyers to complain about 'incidents' at games where none of the complainants was actually present! i would imagine that Rochdale AFC would have wanted to seek a legal opinion on any response before publishing it on the official site, and I would imagine it would take time on a Sunday to get this legal advice. Lets not get ahead of ourselves on condemning the player, the Directors or the club before the truth of this allegation has been established.
Unfortunately, this alleged incident has opened the doors to those with their own agenda at both a local and national level to take the moral high ground, and the name of Rochdale AFC will now be dragged through the 'racist' dirt with maximum publicity. if the allegations are later found to be 'not proven' or even worse 'untrue', I wonder if the same level of publicity will be applied to any retractions or apologies???
Sorry about the length of this post, but an allegation of 'racism' is one of the most potentially damaging things that can be levelled at an individual or a club these days, and 'mud sticks'. We will now see our club on the defensive over this, and the player and the club having to 'prove their innocence', which is contrary to all priciples of English Law.

A LOT of history between these two, it doesn't need a football match for it to kick off. Agree with the comments that if this had been England fans Mr Platini would have been calling for us to be on next plane home. These are serious hooligans, who train in gyms ready for their rucks, not like the blobbys fueled up on booze that pass as England hooligans! And the BBC are still absolutely dying for there to be a major racist incident................

Great signing - got a keeper now who is really committed to the club, and provides a confident presence for the defenders. The foundations are coming along nicely! Feeling very positive.

If Hillcroft was still here, would we be regarding this as a possible 'broken toy' signing? Like a number of others have said, it must be a question of attitude rather than ability. Seem to remember Owdham fans laughing at us when we signed COG as he had a 'sh*t attitude', and look what happened there. He's got to be worth a trial at least, followed by a game to game contract if he shows promise, heavily performance related. A small wage, with a high goals bonus, initially at least? One thing the club should not do is tie up a lot of money, either in wages or contract on what will be a big risk.

Who's turning out for the Torch?
at 11:06 11 Jun 2012

Just can't feel interested in the Torch. It's coming past the end of our street in Heywood, and I don't think I'll bother. Having said that, it's nice to see the centre of Heywood decked out in Union Flags without the normal suspects trying to get them removed as 'racist'!! It's London's games, and we are getting the crumbs (oh, and the ever increasing bill!). For those of you that are into the Olympics, hope you enjoy,. For me, they are tending to overshadow proper coverage of the Euro's!!!

Season Ticket Deadline Extended

Gives people a bit more time to get the money together, also hopefully a bit of positive news from the club might help the undecided make their minds up. Sensible action from the club.

Mr Dunphy and Mr Coleman please take note.

Haven't the 'rules' on the geographical area that kids can be taken on from been changed this year, enabling the Premier League clubs just to take what they want from where they want? There was something on the Football League show or Late Kick Off about it, calling into question whether it would be worthwhile the 'lower league' clubs continuing to run academies and youth teams. It looks as though everything now is just run for the Premier Leagues clubs benefit. Having said that, we all dream of unearthing a diamond that will secure the clubs future for a few more seasons!

Black Sabbath - Paranoid from Bradleys, closely followed by Deep Purple in Rock, out of my mums catalogue on the weekly (couldn't afford both!). Remember Black Sedan, always was a funny smell in the shop, now know what it was!

The thoughts of Gary Jones
at 14:23 3 May 2012

Hope he sees out his contract, but for his sake hope he and Coleman can agree that he be used in a more sparing way next season. His legs haven't gone, but he was run into the ground this season, and looked jaded at the end. His name shouldn't be an automatic on the team sheet next season, he should have games spaced out and targeted where he can have maximum impact and influence. He's been a great servant to this club, and the club should be looking at converting him this season to player/ coach, if that's what he wants. All depending on hat Mr Coleman wants, of course!

1st - Thin Lizzy at Champness Hall on Drake St when they were touring 'Fighting' album - went expecting Whiskey in the Jar, they blew us away, fantastic!
Overall favourite - Lynyrd Skynyrd at Free Trade Hall, before the plane crash!
Worst - wife dragged me along to see Candlewick Green somewhere in Yorkshire - horrific!
(Showing my age, but still rocking!)

Anybody still undecided on S/T ?
at 14:03 3 May 2012

Will be renewing mine, my wifes and grand-daughters tomorrow, out of my redundancy money(not much left after that!). Those of us that have supported the Dale for a few years know we have punched above our weight for quite a few seasons now, and there is no reason that we can't start to do the same again next season. Can hardly wait for the start of the new adventure!
As far as not renewing due to relegation, that never entered my head. Whether I'll be able to afford a season ticket next season depends on local employers giving me a chance, and my heart goes out to season ticket holders not able to renew due to the financial situation.
