| Forum Reply | 12 substitutes today at 09:42 28 Dec 2024
It may well be the first time it's happened. One team is allowed to use 6 substitutes if they have a concussion-related injury, but I didn't know the other team was then also allowed to use 6 to balance things up. Perhaps we weren't. The announcer said, "West Ham's 6th substitute is....", but for our 6th, he only said the name. In future, if any of our players get injured after the 5th substitution has been made, the manager needs to tell them to go down clutching their head, even if they've broken their leg. Incidentally, Fabianski was fine as soon as he left the pitch. He didn't even need to go to hospital for a check-up. I've looked at the replay of the incident several times and he was definitely barged into Wood by his own player. So, there is no way Wood should have received a yellow card for so-called "serious foul play". I wonder if Wood had gone down instead of Fabianski, it might have been reviewed for a penalty by VAR? Yes, whatever happened? He was good, wasn't he? One of the few experienced top flight defenders we had, with more than 160 Premier League games under his belt. |

I agree. The new setup is a big improvement. The Northam End is very good now. It was embarrassing before, not having a proper home end. With the results we've had this season, the old setup would have been dire. You wouldn't have heard anything from our groups of fans stuck in the corners of the Northam , while the away fans would have been booming out from it as if they owned the place. Now, it's the away fans who are stuck in a corner, which is how it should be. I feel quite proud of our home support now. [Post edited 27 Dec 15:26]

I agree, grumpy. He was, by far and away, our best player. I was beginning to doubt him after a few lacklustre performances under Martin, but the new manager seems to have inspired him. |

2. West Ham fans were the first this year who sang almost as much about their rivals as ours do: with songs about Millwall and, more surprisingly, Chelsea. When the Northam End sang, "You only sing when you're winning," the West Ham fans missed an opportunity: they could have sung back, "You never sing when you're winning." The last time they were here, their team were doing well and so they were in a much more buoyant mood and singing about a "European tour". In fact, two of them, singing that very song, while sharing a stolen electric scooter, asked me directions to St Mary's and I pointed them down a path which led straight into a wall. We created better chances than West Ham today. If we'd had Bowen and they'd had Onuachu, we'd have won 2-0. |

But those who've managed it recently have done very well. Buying the right players in the first 2 transfer windows is crucial. Forest and Bournemouth are both in the top six, ahead of the likes of Man City, Spurs and Man Utd. |

Leicester should stay up. They were champions last season and even their 2nd and 3rd choice strikers are better than anyone we've got. Apart from our position in it, the Premier League is the most exciting and competitive it's been since 2015/16. It would be great to see Forest do a Leicester and win the league. We can only dream of one day being up there with the likes of Bournemouth. |

I think that's the first time I've seen 12 substitutes play in a league game at St Mary's. Has it happened there before? Theirs were better than ours. They could even bring on a top class sub goalkeeper. |

I agree, Grumpy, I didn't get back from the game until much later so I didn't see your post before I posted mine, which is almost identical to yours. We so, so badly needed a goalscoring centre forward this season and we still do. [Post edited 26 Dec 19:51]

The difference between the 2 teams today was that only one had a goalscoring striker: Jarrod Bowen. We had a lot more chances, but chances don't win games. Give Bowen 2 chances and he'll score a goal; give Onuachu 4 and he won't. Playing a season in the Premier League without a goalscoring striker means you don't win games. We created so many chances today, it was frustrating to see we had nobody capable of finishing them, but I guess we already knew that.. [Post edited 26 Dec 19:44]

Merry Christmas. The game tomorrow should be the highlight. I'm looking forward to it. |

Rômulo from Göztepe would be good. He's scoring a a lot more goals there than Matsuki and Juan. I think Matsuki and Juan are the ones we can bring back in January as they are on loan from us. Rômulo is on loan from a Brazilian club. His loan contract in Turkey doesn't expire until June, but I guess we should take priority. We probably won't though. Maybe we could swap a couple of our current so-called strikers for him. Sport Republic are proving brilliant owners for Göztepe. They're having the best season in their history. I agree. We've already seen that when we stop the stupid passing at the back and play Ramsdale rather than McCarthy in goal, we can compete at this level. Of course, to get the goals we really need, we must get a centre forward in January. Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year [Post edited 23 Dec 15:21]

Gardening leave for Alex McCarthy would be a good idea before he is released at the end of his contract. We'd have lost 2 or 3 - nil today, if he'd been in goal. He's cost us so many games over the years; I never want to see him play for us again. |

Ramsdale for McCarthy and Juric for Martin = clean sheet. I'm very happy with that. We've got rid of Martin and his stupid passing at the back, but we also need to make sure that we get rid of McCarthy asap so he can't do any more damage here in future. I already get the impression that Juric is such a sensible manager that he wouldn't pick him anyway. |
