Can’t see what anyone saw in Tulloch tonight. Fast but too lightweight and runs into dead ends. Thought Sinclair did well first half but was really poor second half - certainly wasn’t MOM. Malley and Brierely were good, but Kelly showed when he came on why he’s keeping both out of the team with a fantastic finish from the one chance he got. Played well tonight but lacked that killer instinct to make it 2-0. Hope Quigley’s injury isn’t too serious! Does anybody know if we’d have definitely gone through if we’d have won on Pens? |

First game I’ve seen tonight following the appointment of Jim Bentley. Very slight improvement but I’m still incredibly worried. There’s just so little quality in that team it’s untrue - particularly in the middle of the park. Lost count of the number of times a simple pass went astray and the inability to even hold onto the ball (never mind create a meaningful attack) in the last 10 minutes was pathetic. Whilst neither are world beaters, Rodney and Campbell at least have enough pace to get in behind defenders if we play a decent pass to them - something Ball and Diagouraga seem incapable of. Malley / Brierely / Kelly need to be on the pitch if we are to get anything out of a game. Henderson again looked poor - Not sure why we changed the shape tonight to get him back in after a decent result at Carlisle, he’d certainly not be in my first XI. Hard to pick a first XI without knowing the injuries in defence, but for me we have to; Play Rodney and Quigley in a front two Give Malley a start CM If we are going to line up as a 4-4-2 I’d also try Campbell and Seriki on the wings. |

As this thread has turned into more of a “current state of the club” I thought I’d stick my opinion in. Depressing as it is, I think we already look like the first team to be relegated in August. The squad is just so poor in all areas it’s far too big a job for anybody to come in and fix. How did we get here? I think, unlike previous posters, that developing youth / broken toys into sellable assets IS AND STILL CAN BE a viable model. The issue as I see it is that this ONLY works if there is a team that is performing well on the pitch and delivering results. The two are not mutually exclusive, and unfortunately, it seems the mentality of the club has been to ONLY focus on the selling of players - with wilful disregard to the ever-decreasing quality of the first team. From conversations I’ve had, this mentality is seemingly engrained throughout the club. For me it’s time to start again from ground zero as regards the footballing side - get someone in with experience in ASAP. Let the directors run the business side of things, but politely tell them to mind their own business when it comes to “football philosophy” or any of that garbage. Clubs are successful (and fans are happy) when the first team is winning games. Not matter the style of the football. Sellable assets are also possible to create with ANY style of football. If you can win ugly and have a brilliant target man, of course championship clubs will still be knocking. We seem to think we can only sell players by playing football “the right way” - there is no such thing. Massive week coming up. Someone needs to come in and get at least 5 players out the door, whilst bringing as many in to give us at least a chance. Mission impossible |

As another of the fawning posters on the original thread, I feel pretty much the same. What I will say though is that I’m not convinced there was a long-term “evil plan”. I think initially the poor management was a sign of incompetence, before things increasingly became more sinister and self-serving. Despite not knowing him personally (or becoming libellous), there is enough information in the public domain about DB’s personal life. I would say these (self-inflicted) set of circumstances have been the biggest factor in the switch. Nowadays, his actions are just downright strange (posting and liking things on social media about the club despite trying to sell us down the river), these are the actions of a broken man who probably needs help. |

Jesus Christ this is a depressing paragraph, a real-life example of how a large proportion of society are no longer interested in facts, and will simply believe what makes them feel comfortable/ exonerate them of responsibility. 1 - Man-made climate change is absolutely real. You don’t have to be a climatologist to know this, you just have to listen to the overwhelming majority of expert opinion. Similarly if a series of doctors told you you had a disease, would you believe them? or because you didn’t like their diagnosis would you consult with a witch-doctor? 2- Nobody has “rolled out” Greta Thunberg as a spokesman. As a schoolgirl she started a global movement - a fairly impressive feat. The fact that middle-aged men want to comment on her social skills is absolutely laughable, she’s already achieved more in her life than most people ever will. 3 - ’They’ have “rolled out” a ”gang of scientists”, but some people, like yourself seems to have had enough of the experts. I’m not sure if you follow the news much (I.e not your Facebook feed, or crack-pot YouTube channels) but gangs of scientists have been releasing research papers on this for about 30 years. This has to be the stupidest post I’ve seen since Tazzy stopped contributing to this message board. |

Or, maybe they could have a message at the top of the web-page saying something like… “We really want to get behind the lads as much as possible, so if you’re the type of fan who likes to shout from the top of your lungs, we recommend you choose a ticket in block K” Then you have that block set up as a separate ticket type on the page that people can choose (much like any other Gig / Event where there are multiple prices for the same event). Maybe the ticket staff at the ground know about this too and say something similar to the people buying the tickets? Radical and crazy idea that would take all of 5 minutes to implement - and allow Dale fans to exhibit the behaviour they do at every single other away game (where singers can sit/stand near each other to get chants going). What a fantastic draw - literally waited my whole life for this! The only dissapointment of watching Dale previously in games like this has been our inability to really generate any sort of atmosphere, as the true hardcore are generally seperated in and amongst the day-trippers. I'd really like the club to consider this when sorting the tickets. If say, in our initial allocation, they could seperate a block or two for 'singers', then ask applicants if they want to go in the 'singing section' it would really help everyone's overall experience. I'm absolutely fine with all the day-trippers turning up, and want the whole town to turn out to support us. But I'd love it if we can get 1,000 people all sitting together, joining in with the chants and giving the lads that extra boost. [Post edited 29 Aug 2019 10:45]

Have I missed something here? Two tweets is hardly a 'marketing campaign', it's a couple of pictures - and the club trying something that no doubt appeals to a younger audience. Can't wait for the football to start so people don't get so worked up about nothing. |
| Forum Reply | Theoretical stadium relocation at 21:56 30 Jun 2019
Interesting thread that I’ve thought a lot about myself over the years. Although Spotland is in a poor location, it could be made better. However, the best matchday experiences I’ve had watching football have always been in central locations (Milmoor, Gay Meadow, St James’ Park Newcastle, so that would be my preference). As mentioned by previous posters, the old MFI site at the top of Drake Street would be ideal. Great location for nearby pubs and restaurants, plus excellent transport links. Brownfield site, so should be cheap, and could even come with grants if supported by our incompetent council (Though I doubt it would be something they’d support - I’m staggered at how ‘1990s’ their ideas have been to date on the town centre redevelopment). Could even do something really daring with the stadium design, something like the tram line running parallel to the pitch in a tunnel ‘come see what you’re missing?’ I think the location would be beneficial to the town, but also to the club in terms of making it revenue-generating pre/post match, and even not on match days. Sports bar maybe? If we’re staying at Spotland, I’d say; The boxes need renovating (add some outdoor space like modern exec boxes), all the bars and food outlets need bringing into the 21st century — and GET RID OF THE RED. Change all the red ones for black, and paint the red trim around the stadium in black too! |

Incredible achievement. I’d have put my house on us going down two months ago - and now we look like finishing mid table! Let’s not forget the rest of the coaching staff ( https://mobile.twitter.com/officiallydale/status/1103641584577531906) - must have taken a lot to lift the players if they were feeling as down and divided as the fans. Further point, as the longest stint in the third tier, this surely has to be officially the most successful period in the history of the club. |

So he’s gone. Regardless if you think it’s the right decision or not, he leaves as without doubt the most successful manager in the club’s history. I thought I’d start a thread for people to share their top 3’s of his tenure — Players, Games & Goals. For me… PLAYERS: 1- Craig Dawson — Probably the best player we’ve ever had. 2- Scott Hogan — In my opinion the pick of the strikers that went on to better things. Exciting to watch and by far the most profitable. 3- Ian Henderson — Consistently brilliant for us - and will hopefully finish his career with us as the all-time top scorer. GAMES: 1- Dale 2 Spurs 2 — Fantastic game, brilliant drama, late goal and we actually put in a great performance when the world was watching. 2- Dale 2 Darlo 1 — What’s not to love about winning our first ever playoff match on penalties? 3- Dale 2 Leeds 0 — A well deserved win against former European cup winners in front of a full Spotland. Two great goals to boot! GOALS: 1- Steven Davies v Spurs — Justice, Lateness, Cup Magic, Spotland Erupting into pandemonium. 2- Perkins v Darlington — A great goal (even if it was deflected), incredibly important and saved our playoffs. 3- Thompson v Charlton — The story of Joe, keeping us up on the last day — just wow. 10 years is such a long time, and I’m sure we’ll all be talking for the rest of our lives about the players and moments on this thread. Thank you for the memories Keith. |

Brief summary of today; We weren’t as good as last week but won (and deserved to) We were better in the first half, allowed them in a bit during the second Bradford are TERRIBLE (I mean, really bad), can’t see them staying up. Moore & Dooley were great, and should get a stretch in the team now Wilbriham is a poor-man’s Calvin Andrew, which is a very poor man indeed Nice little cushion between us as the bottom 4 now, I think we’ll hover here for the rest of the season. Let’s hope for a good cup draw on Monday - Gateshead away for me (if we can’t get Eastbourne of course) |

Very good team performance in the second half, and a well earned point in the end. Both Lillis and Normal played well, with the latter very unlucky IMO to be sent off. As others have said, Hendo and Hart were good. It seemed we tried to play much more on the ground and down the wings without Andrew and Alby on the pitch, which for 45 minutes allowed us to create numerous chances. Dare I say it? A bit like the Dale of old? Having said all that, we were very lucky to be in at half time 0-0. Perkins had another poor game and looks to be another one in the Matt Done mould (a former great who’s a shadow of their former self, but will be picking up a sizeable wage). McNulty was poor; I’m not sure Delaney is any better but at least he offer and aerial threat at the other end of the pitch. I’m as baffled as anyone why Cannon and Clough are being kept out of the team. Anyway, all being fit and proper I’d start the next game as follows... Lillis Raff McGahey Delaney Hart Camps MJW Clough Cannon Hendo Inman |
