I'm not sure if anyone has posted this yet. Link below, key quote here:
“We've made bids for two players,” Wilder confirmed. “Two centre-halves. I'm not going to give names and we've enquired about another two as well. We desperately need to bring a centre-half in, we understand that, but there are options there and hopefully before the deadline, one will come in the building. And will come into a group that's going to get stronger and stronger by the week.”
We're six points plus goal difference off the play-offs, with 51 points to play for. We have an outside chance, note, outside.
Given the way the S & P rules and parachute payments load the dice against us, that isn't going to happen often.
Dunne is a key member of the starting eleven and this squad has shown in recent weeks that it could, without any additions, have a real tilt at the play-offs. Note: Could.
Unless Dunne himself wants to move or we are being offered mega bucks - way north of £2m - shouldn't we reject all offers?
We might have to wait years to be in this position again. You know what we're like, we're never far away from a crisis.
People said go for it in the FA cup, fine, but with all the riches and stockpiled talent in the Prem, it's becoming close to impossible to win a cup unless you're in the top division.
Unless our player development and/or income improve exponentially, our circumstances and prospects now are pretty much what they're always going to be. We need to be in the Prem in order to be self-sustaining.
Deep breath: So all that being said, shouldn't we strain every sinew to keep him and go for promotion?
Now you watch everything blow up in my stupid face.
I was concerned when stalwarts Merv (drums) and Joie (synths and sampling) left Ozric Tentacles to concentrate full time on their electronic music project Eat Static, but I need not have worried because the subsequent 1995 OT album, "Become the other," was decent.
OT in their pomp were no Hawkwind/Gong clones and came up with some highly original, eclectic rock music, like this from the aforementioned album. The moment when the bassist starts playing the riff the guitarist was just playing is wonderful.
Meanwhile, still in 1995, Eat Static served up this cracker:
Sad but true fact: A lot of the Ozrics' archive material was lost in 2012 when wildfires destroyed the guitarist's Colorado home 😞
"Pollution won't be a problem" we're told "Planes are more fuel efficient and cleaner".
sophistry ˈsɒfɪstri noun the use of clever but false arguments, especially with the intention of deceiving. trying to argue that I had benefited in any way from the disaster was pure sophistry a fallacious argument.
That could've been written by Willie Walsh.
Yes, it is true that planes are getting more efficient and are producing less CO2 but we are decades away from the aviation industry being decarbonised.
Your point about IC chips might explain why it was so difficult to get my laptop repaired. The repair company seemed to really struggle to identify the correct chip, but to their credit, they persevered and eventually fixed it.
Mrs R from Afar recently wanted to get her Citizen watch repaired. She discovered that a service was going to cost £170; a brand new watch costs £189. Oh dear
I subscribe to a travel blogger on YouTube who makes very slick, well researched videos about her travels in Scotland (where I have relatives).
Most of the comments below the videos are extremely grateful and supportive but - sigh - some morons can't resist posting one liners like: "You're hot!"
Frankly, it's pathetic, creepy and unnerving. She's not a p0rn model or making videos clad only in lingerie.
Shameful
I think before posting something online, people need to ask themselves:
- Would I say that to someone face to face? - How would I feel if someone said it to me? - How would I feel if someone said it to a close friend or relative of mine?
I think repairs are more expensive now. I was quoted £90 minimum to repair hiking boots whose soles were coming off. I managed to buy a decent new pair for just £47.
If you have a faulty electronic device, including cookers, the website ifixit.com might be helpful.
I doubt there is anything in this but I will share it anyway. I reckon he would be out of our price range, from both a budgetary and S & P perspective; there are rumours that Luton have just had an offer for him rejected:
Wycombe are now open to listening to offers for Richard Kone, to free up some funds for the incoming manager.
