Songs in the key of life is in my top three albums of all time. I think it's musically the most versatile album ever. I saw Stevie a few years back, he gives great value for money and really is an accomplished pianist to boot. Awesome musicians playing for him.
If you haven't heard of Jacob Collier, check this out. I can honestly say in all my years as a musician (sorry drummer) I have never seen such a talent, he is truly from another planet.
Many happy returns DW, your weekend sounds fantastic.
My daughter was proposed to at the Shard just three weeks ago and it's a nice place to stay. I turned 50 18 months ago and I quite like this age so look forward to it, it's not that bad.
Good stuff Blob, I met Alan Hinds at the Namm show, what a nice guy he is. He is friends with my companies artist relations guy so got to have a nice chat with him. Great bass player on the video.
Hi Scottish, My view is it's a little bit about the mix but more about the unconventional bass rhythm he is playing which makes it a contributor to the melody overall.
Maurice influenced most soul, funk R&B artists to shape that genre, he was pure genius. His music was bold and adventurous compared to most pop songs which are generally very basic, he took pop songs to a new level. The other factor is he also helped elevate other musical geniuses like David Foster who has written more hits than anyone else single handedly.
Even though he retired 15 years ago due to health, his influence was all over the band still.
If you classed eWF as a pop band, they are musically the best band of all time in my view.
Maurice, thank you for bringing the funk to the people. RIP.
Everyone should listen to Rachmaninov's piano concerto No.2 in their lifetime, I studied it when I was 10 and it was one of the best things I ever did. Listen to it and your wife will never forget, the love in the piece is incredible.
