I'm going back next week to do a careers talk, which I guess you wouldn't do if you hated the place or your time there. Alas, my year are having a meeting in July, but I can't make it. |

Allow me to repeat myself: there are too many egos and idiots in positions of power. Indulge me further: ignoramuses, too.
JD Vance is getting away lightly here, he encompases all three traits, and as was evident, doesn't know what he's talking about!
When I see Musk and Vance, part of me always feels Trump is being played by smarter people than him. Allow me to repeat myself again: Trump is one thing, and the religious right that will follow him is far more scarier. I see JDV as being every bit as dangerous as I do Musk.
Europe really needs to get its act together. We have more power than we know, but I'm not confident we have a person(s) who can truly harness us it. Either way, it was a very good day for Russia and China, and at least two people involved in the childush spat are too stupid to realise this! |

The Brutalist
First time since I used to go with my mates of a Saturday morning to the cinema in South Harrow in the early 70s, that there's been a break halfway through!
And boy, do you need it because it's way too long. Which is a shame as I think the film loses something as a result.
However, I wouldn't advise against seeing it, just bring a yoga mat to stretch at half time and some sarnies for the journey home as you'll be ravinous from being away from food for so long. Also, if you go during daylight hours, bring sunglasses so you're not startled upon exiting the cinema after several hours of light depravation.
Needless to say, a tactical nudge from Mrs PH was required as I threatened to go from dozing off to deep sleep via snoring. But, it's not a problem as I caught up with what I'd missed within a couple of hours. |

All of the above plus...
There seem to be more cameras about looking for speed and traffic light infringements. Although the toll roads seem less populated of these things. Mrs PH and I have both been caught and if you are caught, don't lose the summons as it is a nightmare trying to pay the fine without it.
Secondly, on some roads vehicles are allowed to join from the right where frankly, you'd expect them to have to wait. There aren't always signs to indicate this either.
August is merde on the roads, more so in and around tourist areas, obviously. I live down south, and I don't know what it is about camper van and caravan drivers, but their driving abilities and basic human effing awareness of other road users, present one with very slow moving chicanes. If you're travelling during peak times, parking can be fun to find.
Generally, if you're driving a right hand drive car on the right, take your time until you've become acclimated. I try to avoid driving around Toulouse after sunset. There are northern pit ponies operating in more light then drivers are afforded. |

I expect to have a few tears in my eyes at the Leeds game, next month.
I'm coming back to clear out and sell the childhood home. The home I set off from to go to my first QPR game in 1974 and from wherever I was on the planet, the one I returned to when visiting the folks.
Now they've departed, I won't be returning to it anymore and a huge chapter in my life will close. And with it, the realisation that the next time I go to see the Rangers, I'll be a tourist in my homeland. |
