Whislt it may have brushed his arm in the challange at the back stick, how about that absolute inch-perfect, first time pass down the line to set Smyth on his way in the build-up. Ball played into him, back to goal and to find your man first time like that is top centre forward play, many would have overhit hit. Not just a Frey-train bulldozer, he can play a bit too. |

Great win. Now in uncharted position discovery mode, like a Spanish-led galleon sailing into unknown waters. Also, can we just camp out at the Spurs academy and get first dibs on any more hidden gems being released like Morgan? Their player Nelson, ex-Spurs around same age also gave us a few problems. |

I know some may not take to young Tyler's commentary, but compared to this Luton guy on the Fawan stream, Tyler is an absolute craftsman. |

Proper centre forward goal that, back to goal on half-way with an absolute peach of a first time ball down the line to Smyth, steams forward to the back stick to do his thing. Love it |

Hope we go as full strengh as we can which may mean a back 4 of Dunne, JCS, Edwards, Paal. Ask the lads for one final push to dig deep and go all in for the win which would give us a great buffer as said. Then wholesale changes next week against Leicester, effectivly giving the key players 11 days rest to recharge ahead of big (winnable) games against Plymouth and Hull. [Post edited 6 Jan 11:05]

Agree, he really needs to show something in the Leicester cup game to save his season. If indeed selected. |

This also serves as a case study for any other Premier League academy player deemed surplus to requirements that we may have our eyes on this summer. |

Whislt we’ve already brought one player in and recognise the need for further reinforcements, budget permitting. But what about our current players who would benefit from getting more game time elsewhere: WALSH - Needs to be on loan getting games, good enough for L1 starter. Send him out with 24hr emergency recall clause so if Nardi does one we have him back. Not going to develop on the bench or by just playing 2-3 games in a season. Future No.1 but needs more experience. EDB - Another one that needs games. 24 yrs old with only 28 games under his belt. There could be something there, but he needs regular minutes to unlock it and regain confidence. Currently benched and seemingly out of contention, he looks broken and needs a reset. SANTOS - A loan up north in L1 should toughen him up. Make or break him. LLOYD - More of a 1st-teamer than the others, but with Kolli emerging, Frey back, and Celar close, his chances in the lone striker role look slim. While he offers value as a wide option or a bench player, really needs games to develop. |

Everyone turned up today (evident by the varied MOM shouts), and had to as Watford were dangerous but lacked the in-box killer instinct which we produced when needed. High chance we would have lost that game earlier in the season. The Frey Train was pivitol to our play 1st half as he was bullying their CB's allowing us a foothold further up the pitch. Ashby in his natural position was a nimble outlet down the flank and mostly solid when required. More of that please. Dunne immense at CB, we now have 4 solid CB options with the new addition on top, is Edwards even needed? With more players coming back + perhaps a few new additions, it could be a more comfortable end to the season with the pressure off to try things and experiment, oh the cheek of it. This Frey Train performance is just what we've been missing. A bully up top with a decent touch to play off. [Post edited 1 Jan 13:20]

From the start of the 2nd half it felt as if we were just trying to hold on to what we had with another game 3 days away in mind. Stark contrast from the 1st half where we showed some actual forward intent, but i partly get that. However an already patched up team finished that game with no real leaders (Dunne / perhaps Fox alone) and we didnt have the collective nouse or game intelligence to see it out which is disappointing. Would it have been any different with Cook, JCS, Field & Chair on the pitch? Quite possibly. Anyway, we learn from it and go again, decent point on the road would have taken before game. |

Madsen not in the game at all, nobody really is at this point, we've reverted to shitting the bed every time we have the ball. |

An absolute barnstorming 2nd half from the lads. Anyway, no time to rest (or even train) as they'll be travelling up to Norwich tomorrow. That will either be more of the same or, which i hope, a pride fuelled response to this. |

Just like Bristol City away first half, a fellow average mid-table team is absolutely handing it to us, partly based on our complete incompetent 'ability' to retain possession for more than 2 passes (with no exaggeration). 15% first half possession and playing like a bunch of part-timers? It's bizarre, we are not playing prime Barcelona here. Pathetic. 5 subs and refunds all round. |

Can it still be considered an absolutely shocking summer of recruitment and the 'worst squad of players since the 2001 relegation', while also witnessing Nardi, Morrison, Varane, and Morgan visibly excel and play pivotal roles in our recent form? It was never going to be a 100% hit rate, and the above may still flop. The lack of strikers is a valid criticism, but with Paal having played every game last 2 seasons and Fox proving a solid backup last year, why not let Ziyad go out on loan to develop and free up some budget.. Those gambles backfired, so might Madsen, Santos & Celar. Yet why not wait to see how the season plays out now that we're no longer 'doomed for L1'.. (or perhaps we still are). Back the winners, dump the losers, and learn from the summer’s mistakes. If he's as smart as he believes himself to be, he won't repeat those blunders twice. And if he does, i'll join you with the pitchfork and flaming torch to storm the gates. |
