Looking back from a far with 20 20 hindsight I can see that not many will want to go up Bottomley Boulevard. Andrew’s Alley? [Post edited 29 Mar 2023 15:08]

They’ll each need their own office. How’s about we knock down the Main Stand and replace it with a 3 Tier cantilever stand with adequate office facilities? We could create a fans experience walkway to it called the Bottomley Boulevard. |

So that’s Michael Simpkins and Shaun Reid as Assistants to the Assistant Joint Player Manager sorted. [Post edited 29 Mar 2023 14:43]

Each will need an assistant. How’s about Gary Jones as Assistant Joint Player Manager and Calvin’s Andrews as the other Assistant Joint Player Manager with Chris Beech as Assistant Joint Director of Football and Gareth Griffiths as the other Assistant Joint Director of Football. Uniforms next. I’ve always liked the baddies in Star Wars but in a more mauve rather than Death Star grey. |

How’s about, Hendo and Jim as joint player managers and Hilly and Flicker as joint DoFs? [Post edited 29 Mar 2023 10:40]

It’s going to be great. Coronavirus Lord Haw Haw, Laurence Fox, will be presenting it and Mike Oxlong and Hugh Janus will be calling in to the fans forum to ask if the Foxes are used to coming from behind. |

Good examples of good Keith Hill. After that though was the re-signing of 36/37 year old David Perkins who was then castigated by Hill for essentially being restricted positionally by his age. He then signed an even older Wilbraham who was then dropped after failing to adapt to a left wing role (age 39!). Jordan Williams was lauded, whilst far better players were jettisoned or deemed ‘unreliable’. You talk of Joe Bunney’s transformation but it was apparent to most for a good 12 months before he left that he really wasn’t a left back/wing back. Hill was absolutely fantastic but it’s a bit disingenuous not to even mention the last 12/18 months of his time here. |

Good spot. Just heard Jonathan Ross discussing the very same thing on Talksport and he also played for Wadcliffe and Wochdale! He had a spell at Bolton but that was on loan so his spell at the Twotters doesn’t count. |

I agree re BBM. There was definitely something there. He needed guiding and the deficiencies ironing out but his teams also had many merits. His signings were for the most part very good. [Post edited 18 Sep 2022 10:35]

Absolutely but there’s an element of rose tinterry about this. Whilst Calvin undoubtedly played his part in the good days he was also very much seen as part of the problem in the not so good days. |

The team has been in decline for the past 4/5 years or so save for two short ‘honeymoon’ periods of relative upturn that BBM and Stockdale initially brought, only for the downwards slide to continue thereafter. The decline started in Hill’s penultimate season and Calvin was very much part of the squad then as well. Calvin was never abused he was criticised for a lack of goals, people acknowledged and appreciated the effort. When we had Hendo, Davis and the likes of Lund and Vincenti scoring goals regularly it was ok but when goals were less in supply it became a problem. BBM sensibly realised this when he took over and put an arm around Wilbraham (after some shoddy management by Hill) and got a return out of him (one of the major reasons we avoided relegation that season). Calvin’s Dale career was effectively over then. Somebody on this thread has commented that we’ve not had a shot on target in 2 games. Calvin would not address that, however much we rate or not rate him. |

I don’t want Steve Bruce. |

I think he may have got, at the very least, more of a grace period if he’d just tried to be a bit more flexible and pragmatic when it came to line-ups and formations. He would have looked more capable of trying to find a solution. A bit more proactive. In the absence of that, fans and the board ended up rightly reaching the conclusion that nothing’s going to change here. It’s just going to be more of the same. [Post edited 19 Aug 2022 7:42]

Playing 3 centre halves and 2 holding midfielders is brilliant, crowded but brilliant. |

If I remember rightly, Hilly, in a rare moment of humility, admitted to regretting releasing him after that season. |

Yeah, fair point. I can’t help but think though that an average full-back would be a better full-back and an average winger would be a better winger if they didn’t have the entire length of the pitch to cover. Wing-back is an incredibly difficult position to play effectively. You’ve got to be super fit and very much an all-rounder. There’s very few good ones in the Premiership let alone in League 2. |

The one thing you can hang your hat on is that he’s going to play 3-5-2. I’ll be honest I’ve never been a huge fan of it. It tends to work better in leagues/countries where the game is played at a slower pace, as it doesn’t demand as much from the wing-backs. A lot of the time when you see it deployed over here, the wing-back ends up being neither an effective full-back or winger and the 3 centre-backs end up covering the full-back position whilst the 2 forwards get deprived of attacking width and isolated.
