Memories eh. The address used to be my late dads repetition engineering business K & C from about 1950 to the early 90’s. Knowing how the place functioned in the 60’s and 70’s it’s amazing to think what is now manufactured there, and not only that, but apparently it’s of good quality. |
| Forum Thread | Money Laundering and football clubs at 13:29 23 Sep 2021
Given our current environment would somebody far more financially educated than me explain what the attraction of football clubs is to money launderers. There’s a bloke in Aus just vanished overseas having embezzled about $400 million out of Australian banks. He has spent $15 million of this on buying a Greek second division football club. The owner of another second division club lodged a complaint with the Greek governing body attempting to block the takeover on the grounds that the purchase was obviously solely for the purposes of laundering money. What is the specific attraction of football clubs. |

RAFCBLUE is deserving of a place alongside Cloughie, well almost, if his fantastic work in this tawdry affair leads to the EFL slamming the door on these conmen. Is the fact that the EFL has not yet done so cause for concern. Wonder what relationship Bottomley cultivated with the EFL whilst he was CEO. |

Great news. Without wishing to exaggerate it might well be the case that this open letter to AK ranks as one, if not the, most significant pieces of correspondence in the history of our club. Massive thanks to all concerned. |
| Forum Thread | CEO relationship with the Board. at 09:24 4 Jun 2021
Would somebody with knowledge of how Football boards function in the UK advise whether it is normal to have the CEO on the board. I’ve been on the boards of sporting organisations in Oz of similar size and structure to The Dale and we would never even contemplate having the CEO on the board. Every board I’ve sat on has had an executive remuneration committee. This minimum requirement does not appear to have existed on the Dale board and is yet another shocking indictment of the boards’ performance in recent times. How anybody has had a pay rise, and a significant one at that, in the current climate, is an absolute disgrace. |

A few other teams we used to play on a regular basis, all of whom had greater local support than us, and most of them nearby, include Stockport, Bury, Chester, Wrexham, York, Halifax. The list is substantially larger if you go a little further away. Up to date it’s been the quality and commitment of our board that’s kept us where we are. Unfortunately that no longer seems to be the case. |

There have been at least 2 instances recently in the Oz press that I’m aware of where Australian companies have expressed an interest in purchasing English football clubs. I think one of them may have been primarily interested In Wigan Athletic. The other one was more generic. What it does indicate is that, for reasons that escape me, there appears to be a fair bit commercial interest in purchasing EFL clubs. One with out any debt would appear to be particularly attractive. The activities of those running the club at the moment are of great concern. |

No idea what the rules on this are but is it possible for CFG to purchase our club. The one flaw in their business model, which to my untrained eye seems far superior to others in the premier league, is their inability to develop youth in the one environment whilst ensuring tough competitive games. It might be one possible explanation for the nonsense that seems to be surrounding Baah’s possible move. |

I don't think any state premier has come out of this with glowing reviews. I had a brother and sister in law move permanently from Vic to WA. It took them exactly one month to do that due to various regulations being in force in Vic regional areas, SA border regs, And WA border regs and even then they have have had to leave a fully loaded 4WD in Mildura. When they eventually got to Perth they then had to quarantine in a very basic hotel for two weeks, not allowed to leave their room at a cost to them of $3,000. The big query in VIC is who exactly made the decision re security guards and hotels. The big suspicion, and the reason it wasn't raised at the inquiry, is that the Police Association rejected a request for there members to do the security work, unlike QLD and NSW, and under the terms of their industrial agreement that was that. No politician or police management will ever admit to that as it's an admission as to who governs VIC. |
| Forum Thread | Coronavirus Melbourne at 13:29 30 Sep 2020
Given the apparent worsening situation in the UK I thought you might be interested in our experience in Melbourne. We have now been in some kind of lockdown in Melbourne for 6 months. By lockdown I mean takeaway coffees only, pubs and restaurants closed, exercise outside for maximum 1 hour, curfew from 9pm to 5am, no travel more than 5kms from your home address, compulsory to wear masks outside your home, just to name a few restrictions. Massive fines for amy infringements. We're such an obedient, white bread society that all this passses with very little debate. The odd protest is soon put down by our all powerful police force who are absolutely out of control at the moment. All this in a city of some 3 million people which has recorded about 10 cases a day for the last week or so. Restrictions will still not be lifted for another 2/3 weeks. All this has come about because we relaxed some initial lockdown restrictions some 3 months ago and some quarantine arrangements in hotels went haywire. As a result case numbers exploded. From my reading of the situation in the UK restrictions such as shutting pubs at 10pm are simply absurd and will only make things worse. You either have to live with it or impose strict lockdown conditions. Nothing else will work. Good luck. |
| Forum Reply | Salary Cap! at 14:06 7 Aug 2020
Good idea and long overdue but it will be interesting to see the detail and how it's monitored. All the major football codes in Oz have had salary caps for years, and are aware of all the ways clubs try to circumvent the rules, but that still doesn't seem to stop clubs trying to rort it. |

Assuming AK's comments are an accurate representation of the facts what does it say about CD, much lauded in this thread, and in sharp contrast to views expressed about the present chairman and other current board members. |
| Forum Reply | Salary cap, 20 1st team players to include 8 homegrown? at 14:02 20 May 2020
The problem with salary caps is monitoring them. Aussie Rules and Rugby Leaugue have had them for years in Oz and it generally works well in that it stops one team dominating. Melbourne Storm had a couple of premierships stripped from them for under the counter player payments and it seems that every year some club or other is investigated. Third party arrangements in particular seem to be an ongoing concern. |

Good afternoon Mick, how's things. Most folks I know in Oz seem to think your PM's doing a pretty good job, especially crisis management, ie. the massacre and the covid19 stuff. What we've had here for some years is the usual bunch of entitled Tories under the express direction of Rupert Murdoch. The two guys that stood up to him in recent times both got shafted quick smart. Do you want to swap. |

Went to a game against Luton in the year they won promotion. I think it was in Nov 2018. Finished 0-0. His skill level in that game stood out a mile for mine. Not sure what has happened since but it doesn't sound like he's kicked on. At the time there were comments around regarding his fitness levels. Maybe an injury interrupted season has meant that is still an issue. |

I'm a little confused. You state that the current board and CEO need to be held to account. The evidence seems to suggest that the board and CEO from the hill/dunphy days are the ones who should be held to account and that the current board and CEO have been left to clean up the mess. Which version is correct. |
