8 second goalkeeper rule on 18:25 - Mar 3 with 396 views | SullutaCreturned | Well then, this time it's going to be enforced eh. We'll see but I bet the players all get on referees backs and a month in we'll see the same thing, keepers holding onto the ball too long and referees ignoring it. Why would it be a nightmare to regulate? When the keeper catches the ball start counting, as the story says, at 5 put your hand up and use 3 fingers...1...2....3, if the keeper is still holding the ball it's a corner. I think it has to be taken further though, lets say after 3 incidents the keeper gets booked then ONE more time it's a red. If refs actually punish them the keepers will stop doing it. For too long now refs have allowed players to get away with cheating.

No, theyntried this before with 6 seconds. The keepers carried on doing it, the players harangued the ref when he gave an indirect free kick and slowly the refs stopped enforcing it. The rule may even still be on the statute books.

They can't even measure 10yds for a fee kick, what makes you think they can judge 8 seconds.

They enforced the injury time rule but after a few months forgot about it.

Yep , and delaying the opposition taking a quick free kick was an automatic yellow card, certainly doesn't happen now.

Wasn’t the bounce about not being allowed to carry it? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

You are probably right, so many steps then bounce the ball.

How do you know they can't measure 10 yards. The 6 law was enforced very easily when it was introduced. Goalkeepers made sure they got rid of the ball. It will be even easier to enforceme now the 4th official can easily count to 8 seconds as he is in communication with the referee.

Is that why some games often have 10 minutes of added time in the second half. It is a law of association football not a rule. Competitions have rules

Exactly what I mean, as I said fearlier, they'll forget about in in a couple of months, it'll fade away because the refs will get tired of the players having a go at them. Which is daft because when the players give them verbals then book them and send them off if needs be. All it takes is for them to enforce the rules strictly for a month and the bad behavioiur will become a case of here and there and not the norm.

"How do you know they can't measure 10 yards." Because many times I've seen the ref take 6 steps then 2 small ones. There was a discussion about it on here not so long ago.
