Swansea City v Blackburn Rovers : Match day thread ** Updated on 18:17 - Feb 22 by Dr_Winston | If nothing else today seems to confirm that our biggest problem this season was not and never has been the squad. It's also strong evidence to support the idea that we're going to be just fine without Matt Grimes. Must admit I was a little concerned when Vig tipped that header over early on but after that we grew into the game with confidence, pace and aggression, never letting them settle on the ball and working hard for each other. The tempo of passing and movement was also a massive upgrade on much of what we've seen before. Who would have thought that just letting players play instead of chaining them into unnecessarily complex and tedious systems would pay dividends? |
Absolutely agree. Used to find it very frustrating when others would use the squad as a defence for Luke Williams. These are professional athletes that only have to play a couple of games a week. Not exactly Tour de France levels of endurance required.

Swansea City v Blackburn Rovers : Match day thread ** Updated on 18:39 - Feb 22 by Whiterockin | But then again Grimes has started the last three games for Coventry and they have won them all, so I don't think the supporters will be complaining for the moment. |
I've consistely criticised Grimes BUT not because I think he's a poor player. I think he was overly negative, prone to dropping too deep and creating problems in our own defence but it wasn't all his fault. I blame the managers too, too long with Martin and then Williams, this idea that possession is king, is more important than all else. I think Southampton going up had some people believeing in Martin again, until this season when the Saints threaten to have the worst ever season. Williams was cut of the same cloth and has us being boring and poor in attack. By this time Grimes had been here too long as was stale, in my opinion. We needed to move Grimes on, to refresh the midfield. Grimes being sold really was the best thing for him and for Swansea. People think I hate Grimes, I don't. I don't hate anybody who has or still does play for us.I can have an opinion about how good or bad they are, it doesn't mean there's hate. Every player has a time at a club and sometimes they outstay that time, I think Grimes is one of those. What we saw today was a retun of fun. The Swans hasn't been fun for ages. It was today and long may it last.

If I thought Grimes was a poor player I wouldn't loathe him half as much as I did. If I thought he was genuinely performing to the best of his ability like say, Fulton then I could get behind that. Most of us understand however that he's capable of more than we ever saw from him on a consistent basis. A lot more. Problem is that we almost never saw it. The odd game here or there. One season under Potter. And that's it. Despite that his cheerleaders spent years declaring his essential status to our side. Anyone miss him today? Coventry are on a good run of form but it's already being noticed that they're not moving the ball as quickly as they used to. We'll see how highly they think of him when that good run of form stops.

You can see how uncomfortable he is being number one and it's a real shame because it's clear his knowledge, passion and modesty is there for all to see. A no BS interview without the arrogance, it's a real shame he doesn't want the job permanently but still a massive benefit to our club. Sheehan knows the players the players he has at his disposal and doesn't have to spend time trying to see what they can or cannot do, for the most part. Would a new manager adapt the team as quick. We saw last year he had a positive affect when he took over, until the Southampton game, we got overrun in that game against a team just relegated from the Premiership with a number of players of quality, our team had a reshuffled back four with Wood's return to fitness over playing at the back which was not seen yesterday but really cost us killing in that game off. Was Sheehan still in charge of that game or was Williams 'in da house' or was the style of play so ingrained it surfaced at the wrong time? Early to say it but I would give Sheehan a shot at the job at least until the end of the season. We should never have lost the Stoke or Sheffield Wednesday games with the players at our disposal, with the return of Parker, Cooper, Ginnelly, Eom and the addition of Delacroix and O'Brien adding strength to the first team squad that has been missing but those players may have needed time to settle in or back in, with us fans expecting those players to have immediate impact but players recovering from bad injuries can take time. For me Sheehan actually adding a bit of height up front with Peart-Harris and Ronald who both caused issues in previous games with both having pace to chase the quickly deliverd long ball and once the ball at their feet can caused defenders one on one problems be it from direct running or well placed passes, I let you work out who does which. The boost of having O'Brien in the middle has allowed the team shape to work with a back four, the same back four that were mean goal wise earlier in the season. Sheehan has used things that have worked at times before but was that one of our very few ninety minute games?
Swansea City v Blackburn Rovers : Match day thread ** Updated on 08:46 - Feb 23 with 728 views | Cheese_addict | Yesterday was the first home game I’ve had to miss due to work, since the QPR game. So without me, 2 games played, 6 scored, 0 conceded. I’m starting to think I’ve been the problem all along, & if we lose the next home game when I’m there, everyone can happily have a pop at me, because it’s clearly been my fault all along! My daughter & granddaughter went yesterday though, & they’ve already been on the phone to me this morning, still talking about yesterday’s game, & clearly still on a high. Amazing what a good performance can do for us all, and lovely to hear a nice atmosphere there yesterday too. I’m obviously not getting too carried away of course, but it was lovely to have our club back for a couple of hours. Feels like a lifetime since we’ve seen a performance like that, & long may it continue

I don’t think he’s good at talking either. Looks like he’s desperately trying to read his notes or autocue. Very good game today though. Impressed with Sheehan here, but too early to back him for the job. I also think there is no need to specifically keep him until the end of the season. He clearly is capable to do the interim job and keep us up…but if our number 1 pick is available before the end of the season, we should do it. I like Sheehan, but I’m not sure I want it to be him.

He probably will as he’s the cheapest option. He’s off to the best start possible after reading the reports and comments on here. He had a game plan and it worked….plus a different team turned up and bought into it. Looking forward to PNE game Tuesday. Can’t remember saying that for a while!

What a Number he'd make though . understand managers like to bring in their own but to me it seems either Williams a wasn't listening or Sheehan wasn't speaking .Because he made sense to me .

Swansea City v Blackburn Rovers : Match day thread ** Updated on 11:49 - Feb 23 with 297 views | builthjack | After a shaky start, and a great save from the Vig, we got stuck in, not allowing Blackburn time on the ball, and winning a lot of 50/50s, and second balls. I haven’t seen that since the QPR game. Yesterday we were better again. Every player put a shift in. We had a 12th man in the fans, they were fantastic. Even the drummer turned up, getting them going. Well done Sheehan. I wasn’t at all sure that he could change things but he proved me wrong. Happy.
