'Martin Out' fans are clueless! 19:32 - Sep 23 with 19963 viewsLjames93

Anyone that wants Martin out needs their head checked.

- We're playing in the best league in the world. Any newly promoted team is likely to get relegated, it's a fact. Teams tipped to come 15th/16th such as Forest have a front four of Elanga, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi and Wood.

- 7 of our 11 against Ipswich were considered new signings or at least new to our first team (Dibling). Again, newly promoted teams will always have more changed/disruptions to their squad. Relationships and understandings on the pitch take time, it doesn't happen after a game or two.

Martin gave us so much joy last season and staying up this season is going to be tough regardless of
A) The style of Play
B) The manager we have.

I personally think gradually adapting our style of play like we've done (Look at Ramsdale going long far more frequently than McCarthy against Newcastle), as well as quickly working out our best 11 will give us the best possible shot of staying up, which includes having RM at the helm.

The grass isn't always greener, we witnessed that last time we got relegated.

You need to wake up and acknowledge how hard this league is!

It's probably because he comes across as a "nice bloke", and the social media shite which is often hoisted on by us by the Club puts him across as one of the lads, and just a general good egg.

The likes of Saint Rob fawning over him because he did a tactics thing for the fans last year (still can't believe he did that) and referring to him as "Russ" as if he is his mate sadly just reinforce the cult of Martin.

Doing that thing before the start of the game of walking over to our away fans is all part of his attempt to avoid getting a caning from the fans when it all turns to ratshit. Which it already has.

People are stupid and fall for it hook, line and sinker.

What do you think of his comments, that if he wants to get to where he wants to be as a coach, that he has to carry on doing things the way that he is Pat?

Speak for yourself mate sorry . I thoroughly enjoyed last season and felt my money was well spent with a season ticket and travelling to 11 away games watching Saints . The feel good factor was back , winning matches, 25 games unbeaten a new record . I said in here last season I wasn’t bothered if we didn’t go up and I stand by that. I couldn’t care less if we become a yo yo club I even said to my son if we go down next season I’ll continue getting a season ticket if they stay up I’ll pick and choose my games. . I hate everything the premier league stands for. It’s a complete nonsense full of arrogant fans, managers, players and pundits who only care about the big clubs.

Strange,a first time poster if I am right comes on with such a statement.

I've posted 100's of times and totally agree with him..
Problem is we have fans who complain like mad about the premier league and how entitled it is and then after 8 games show the very same entitlement.
In my humble opinion if we replace Martin after 8 games using that criteria we will have another 4 managers before the season ends.

So you wouldn't replace him if Moyes or Potter wanted the job?
Even Carlos Corberán from West Brom would do a better job.

When he says, "You need to wake up", does he mean the entire fanbase because if he does, he might not like what he hears when we do?

To be honest I just wrote any old drivel to bump this thread again. It's the messageboard equivalent of the old Ted Bates' Statue: guaranteed to raise a smile every time you see it.

Poll: Who will win the Premier League this season?

'Martin Out' fans are clueless! on 11:15 - Dec 11 with 1274 viewsstmichael

Totally agree..
I think we will reduce our chances of both staying up AND if necessary coming back up if we change manager.
Stick with the plan and we will be better for it long term..
Worse thing we can do is press the panic button..

To take your points in order.

1. At the moment the manager is adamant in applying a tactical system that his team are not capable of playing, something has to change, either the manager adapts his tactics which he has shown he is not willing to do or the manager has to change, a new manager would hopefully adapt his tactics to suit the players in the squad, there fore our chances of staying up would increase, given that if we continue as we have done in the first 15 games of the season are chances of staying up are nil, then they could not reduce.

2. Yes you are right if we do go down then Russell Martin would be a good choice in the Championship, but should he get us promoted then we would be back to square one again unless we sack him before our return to the premier league, therefore perhaps better to find a manager who can give us a chance of staying up this season and who can adapt to the Premier league.

3.Stick with this manager and we will just repeat the last two years and upon our promotion back to the Premier League in 2026 the fan base will desert.

4. Whatever button we will press it is not the panic one, that one passed about 8 games ago, the teams around us are adapting their team and tactics and are picking up points and we aren't.

Spot on Nick.

Where stmichael gets it wrong is saying "Stick with the plan and we will be better for it long term". That means he isn't really thinking long term (he's only thinking to the end of next season) or he genuinely believes that the Rustyball style will work for us long term in the PL. If he believes that then he isn't looking at the evidence.

Point 3 is a big presumption, don’t you think?
This current team wouldn’t necessarily be good enough to be promoted from the Championship.
I can’t imagine the team being any better next season.

StMichael - you say stick with the plan. Maybe I'm a bit thick but I have no idea what the plan is. As you are clearly much more intelligent, would you mind explaining what the plan is? Thanks

We only just ‘scraped’ up last year so what makes you think we would come back up if we were relegated?

If, and it’s a big if, we go down with Rusty at the helm, what’s to say he won’t bügger off quicker than a rat up a drainpipe? His ego probably wouldn’t survive.

In all honesty, I don’t think he will be here or the Red Wall Relegation Party

This idea that Martin would be a good manager for us next season is stupid.

Martin's tactics won't work next season. The last time we were in the Championship, most teams thought we had better quality players than them, showed us too much respect, sat back and let us build from the back without any pressure. We still finished 9 points off the automatic promotion places. Next season, every Championship manager will instruct their players to press us and pick off the passes we make in front of our goal, just like every Premier League manager does now.

The fans should get off Pep Martin's back - after all it's our fault for urging the keeper/defence to boot the ball long & away from danger. We must learn to trust the process.

if and when we go down we will concede 60-70 goals in the second tier, how do i know this, its because his tactics have done this every year of his managerial career and we will struggle to come back up.

Yeah but at least there’s no VAR.

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

The outdated possession game played in your own half is a suicidal tactic nowadays as every manager (except ours) knows how to beat it, even when it's played by top teams like Man City. To continue with it, as we are doing, is completely and utterly pointless. So the longer term this 'project' is, the worse the results will get.
