The oceans emit it too when they warm. So, do you see how it all balances out naturally? It takes time, but it balances out eventually.
The organisms that died are hydrocarbons, which contain co2. Same with planting more trees, they absorb co2, but when they die the co2 goes back into the atmosphere or land.
There is only so much co2 on the planet, we cannot take it away or add to it, that's why being carbon neutral is not possible |

What happens? Global warming. What happens to the Oceans on a warmer planet? It gets warmer. What happens in a warmer ocean? It emits rather than absorbs Co2. Hence the casue and effect I mentioned earlier.
That's the tipping point to a bigger mass extinction than is happening already.

All greenhouse gases are natural, but when people want to eat lots of beef and drink lots of milk we need more cows, when people want to eat loads of rice we need more paddy fields.
Co2 levels have been higher , most recently about 50 million years ago, but Earth was uninhabitable by humans.
That's potentially where we are heading in an extreme case. In that case the long term makes no difference.
