Game off on 18:28 - Dec 25 with 6092 views | Toffeemanc | With Port Vales game against Salford tomorrow already off due to positive cases in the Port Vale camp I think it is highly likely that Wednesdays game will also be postponed. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the “circuit breaker” before long and possibly the temporary suspension of fixtures in the EFL.

Someone called Bottomley has just read this and is now calling the Fylde chairman and doing lots of coughing and sneezing down the phone.....
Game off on 08:00 - Dec 26 with 5261 views | Newbury_Dale | Professional footballers have a lot to answer for, particularly at this level, with their non vaccination approach. These Christmas games will be shunted into a Tuesday night in February now. Massive revenue lost for clubs, at a time when they need it most.

Whys that, how many of them are not vaccinated?

The whole country is something like 90% jabbed for the over 12s, still doesn't seem to be doing a great job of "containment" either, even with that kind of percentage the countries just witnessed its worst ever figures for infection rates per day....mmm | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Game off on 10:26 - Dec 26 by 442Dale | As mentioned previously on here, vaccinations do not stop transmission completely. They do help prevent serious illness, hospitalisation and death. Without them we’d be in a similar position to this time last year and March/April 2020 and already requiring total lockdown to save more lives and help the NHS cope. Those are the facts, the maths are pretty simple around percentages of those requiring hospital now to previously, they illustrate that vaccinations have allowed some progression to the point that we are now able to at least do things again. Are they the silver bullet solution? Probably not, but it’s at least it’s a positive step forward. [Post edited 26 Dec 2021 10:28]

We're not talking about serious illness, hospitalisations etc. He's saying if more players had taken up a vaccination these games wouldn't now be called off.....the current massive infection rates considering the amount of the country already vaccinated suggests the opposite.
Game off on 10:40 - Dec 26 with 4904 views | RAFCBLUE | There's the other side to this argument too which is the sporting one. Should you play if you are not at your strongest and the rules allow you to postpone? Sport is all about giving yourself the best chance of winning. Remember Harrogate Town - they had multiple cases, still managed to play and win against us and then had a number of weeks of "rest" which put them at an advantage to others in the competition. Last weekend, we were one of a small number of fixtures in a league where quite a few "called off". Credit to Newport County for sending their team. Yesterday the decision was to postpone was Carlisle's (and quite late in the day too based on the timing of their annoucement). Will Port Vale send a team on Sunday to face an (assumed) fit and Covid-free Rochdale team or defer that to a cold Tuesday night later in the season when they might be more competitive and know what kind of result they will need? Same question for Mansfield Town? Still 1 of 3 on today for a home game but will they all be fit for a game at Harrogate on Wednesday before a New Year's Day trip to Spotland. Whilst the number of professional footballers is below the average for the UK population there are other reasons why clubs might not want games on at this point in the season as well as also being victims of Covid-19. Integrity of the competition is being devalued not just in League 2 but other Leagues - the EFL need to have good look at that.

Yes, I know. The increase in vaccinations amongst players would help the overall situation much as it does in the rest of society, however studies have been clear that Omicron has an increased vaccine escape - understandable as it was made clear that the initial vaccine may have to be tweaked due to the virus mutating in the future; this may or may not happen once everything is fully known of the impact of Omicron. As has also been posted recently when a point was made around the amount of non-league games still on, the testing regimes in the EFL/Premier League could be a reason for more positives being picked up that wouldn’t have been previously as well. The situation in football is becoming a bit of a mess now as there are valid points about players having to play immediately after coming out of isolation with little training beforehand. It’s certainly a case of somehow getting through the next couple of months and hoping the combined vaccination campaign and impact of Omicron leave us in a much better position.

On the non-league point, seems that's no longer valid; plenty postponed now, but as RAFCBLUE has pointed out, that could also be down to sporting factors rather than infection rates Great work though 442, in trying to redress the balance of ignorance on here in favour of informed opinion. You certainly have more patience than me [Post edited 26 Dec 2021 12:53]

I was out with 2 people on Xmas eve who have both tested positive - one Xmas day and his wife today. I was negative this morning but might not be available for selection anyway for the next two home games Heard so many tales of Rona wrecking Xmas and not from people who are acting recklessly or not being sensible and taking precautions. The current state of play everywhere is not surprising at all.

The jab figures are interesting too. 75% of players are jabbed, which is just about he same as in the general population in the 18 - 30 age groups. Not really a surprise then and just remember that it would be pretty much the same in the stands nd on the terraces.

They can do one. I remember going to the old Plough Lane (early 80's?) for a league game, only to find that it had been postponed an hour and a half before. No mobiles/internet back then. The groundsman let us onto the pitch, and it was absolutely fine; apart from a large puddle which looked suspiciously like it was man made. There must have been a couple of dozen Dale fans wandering aimlessly around. Wimbledon had an injury crisis at the time.

That sounds like what would have been my first ever Dale game. I remember seeing the puddle on the pitch. My Dad wasn't too upset as it meant he could go to a rugby game instead, but I ruined my day. Had to wait about a year for another opportunity when circumstances came together again.
