The respect we pay to those who died.
at 09:30 29 Oct 2024

Sixteen years old when I went to the war
To fight for a land fit for heroes
God on my side, and a gun in my hand
Chasing my days down to zero
And I marched and I fought and I bled and I died
And I never did get any older
But I knew at the time that a year in the line
Was a long enough life for a soldier

We all volunteered, and we wrote down our names
And we added two years to our ages
Eager for life and ahead of the game
Ready for history's pages
And we brawled and we fought and we whored 'til we stood
Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder
A thirst for the Hun, we were food for the gun
And that's what you are when you're soldiers

I heard my friend cry, and he sank to his knees
Coughing blood as he screamed for his mother
And I fell by his side, and that's how we died
Clinging like kids to each other
And I lay in the mud and the guts and the blood
And I wept as his body grew colder
And I called for my mother and she never came
Though it wasn't my fault and I wasn't to blame
The day not half over and ten thousand slain
And now there's nobody remembers our names
And that's how it is for a soldier

Tommy Robinson jailed for 18 months ...
at 13:18 28 Oct 2024

"Passing sentence, Mr Justice Johnson said the activist has not shown any remorse and has been found to be committed contempt of court on three previous occasions, adding that he “regards himself as above the law”.

“The breaches were not accidental or negligent or merely reckless,” he said. “Each breach of the injunction was a considered and planned and deliberate and direct and flagrant breach of the court’s order.”

"He continued: “Nobody is above the law. Nobody can pick and choose which injunctions they obey and those they do not.”

‘THE DAY MINERS CRIED’

It was my first morning shift, I will never forget,
etched in my memory, overwhelming regret.
I constantly ask myself “Could I have done more?”
that tragic scene of destruction, I daily deplore.

Nightmares still haunt, memories so painful,
prayers I still offer, for those lost little angels.
That Autumnal morning, life changed forever,
rescuers digging with earnest endeavour.

Families distraught, Aberfan shrouded in grief,
my mind was in turmoil, it was total disbelief.
Digging for hours, small bodies sadly recovered,
no hope for the future, all violently smothered.

We openly wept, it was too much to comprehend,
colleagues alongside me, totally overwhelmed.
To save those entombed, with time running out,
nothing else mattered, sobbing tears throughout.

On that sorrowful day 144 souls were stolen,
a rain sodden soil tip, leaving families broken.
I still shed a tear, because I cannot forget,
that first shift from hell, it has left me bereft.

Fifty eight years on, a day with me for life,
never to be forgotten, it still cuts like a knife.
Aberfan a village, who on that day died,
it was also the day when ‘ALL MINERS CRIED’

A shot on goal ?
at 22:47 19 Oct 2024

Yep. that's correct - even if a defender kicks it off the line, it's not classed as on target, because the keeper didn't save it.

Exactly the same as hitting the woodwork is not classed as on target.

The world's gone mad. 😂

Olympics legend Sir Chris Hoy reveals he has two to four years to live ...
at 22:36 19 Oct 2024

"Olympic legend Sir Chris Hoy has revealed doctors have given him two to four years to live after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Hoy, 48, revealed earlier this year he was undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer in 2023, explaining the treatment was ‘going really well’.

But in an interview with The Sunday Times, one of Great Britain’s greatest ever sportsmen has now revealed his condition is terminal.

‘As unnatural as it feels, this is nature. You know, we were all born and we all die, and this is just part of the process,’ cycling legend Hoy said."
