LFW Fantasy Football 24/25
at 10:09 14 Aug 2024

I have renewed this league for this season; existing subscribers will have rolled over, the join code for any newbies is 99haqo - all welcome.

I will again be offering the winner an AOF t-shirt of their choice (Stanley, obvs though). Or the cash.

Speaking of which, there is something of a history of winners not sticking around to collect their prize (paging Nathan Mac with Thruxton Slapstick) - as in previous years, I will donate unclaimed winnings to charity (top LR regular Steve Ryder's Brain Tumour Research fundraiser - excuse the plug - https://www.justgiving.com/page/steven-ryder-1722442958493 ).

Good luck all. Sticky for a day or two, please Clive? Thanks!

FFL winner finally announced
at 11:37 14 Jul 2024

Apologies for this, busy moving house (two houses, in fact), but on a nice Covid-induced break at the mo, so...

Belated congratulations to LFW Fantasy League winner, Nathan McAllister and his team Thruxton Slapstick.

It wasn't even close in the end, and the less said about my own title challenge the better.

Well done Nathan - if you send me your details/choice by PM, I will arrange an Art of Football t-shirt your way (be honest, easier to just send you the money, if you'd rather...).

There will be some carping at the inclusion of Chelsea players, but you have to go down to about 9th to find a non-doping entrant, and I appreciate many of you will have been participating in other leagues where the prize money is more than some schmutter.

Thank you to everyone who took part; alas, in the commentary style of Glenn Hoddle, you just needed to have more quality.

With Clive's blessing, we will be back next season, hopefully with one little star over the badge after this evening.

Free Ticket Hull
at 15:52 30 Nov 2023

Due to a problem with my season ticket, the Box Office has sent me a paper ticket for the Hull match, confounding my normal plan of flogging a game I can't make on Twickets.

I'd therefore like to offer this FREE to a fellow member here - all I ask is that you actually do go (I will even cover the postage to you, how much is first class now?!?).

My seat is in Stanley block S and is a lovely knee-saving end-of-row-er.

Title your DM 'Dykes stick three past Tigers', if you are the 'lucky' taker, I'll ask for your address to post then.

Jonnie Barnett FFL Winner 2023
at 16:09 4 Sep 2023

As I have not heard from Jonnie claiming his Fantasy Football prize, I have made a donation in his name to my good friend and fellow northern R, Steve Ryder's Brain Tumour Research fundraiser, which I hope is acceptable to all.

I have now renewed this league for the forthcoming season, and will again be offering a top (ie only...) prize of an Art of Football t-shirt to the winner.

If you were enrolled last term, you will be automatically entered this, although you may want to use the unlimited transfers window to swap out those three quarters of your squad now priced in petro-riyals. Newcomers, you are very welcome – please use this link to sign up:

https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/auto-join/sp6d9b

Rules remain the same, Chelsea players frowned-upon-but-not-forbidden, and obviously don’t waste your money on any of those ‘bargain’ Everton defenders - saw them at Wigan on Saturday, and well, buy cheap, buy twice, as they say, Sean.

Good luck to all, esp you excellent QPR Runners newbies.

Jonnie Barnett – please do contact me to claim your 22/23 prize.

Clive: any chance of making this a sticky for a short time - thank you!

FFL Winner
at 17:56 26 Jun 2023

Apologies for the late update on this, Mumsie Nombre has been poorly so I have been back and forward to Belfast far too frequently...

I digress; huge congratulations to Jonnie Barnett's 'Change Name', holding off a late charge from Jake Spencer's 'Fried Liver Attack' by just 4 points to lift the LFW FFL title.

Double kudos for doing so without signing a single Saudi-bound Stamford Bridger, and commiserations to all those (including myself) now consoling themselves that, however little we know about football, we did at least come up with wittier team names.

Jonnie, if you contact me here, I will expedite your choice of Art of Football t-shirt (I notice these have gone up a fiver since the start of the season...!), bag of cash, or charity donation.

Many thanks to all participating, see you again in (gulp) six weeks?!

World Cup Prediction competition
at 16:09 18 Nov 2022

Setting aside the politics and salad standards briefly, perhaps a little prediction competition will kindle some enthusiasm - an old colleague (lovely bloke for a Chelsea fan) has been running this for years, has now even gone to the trouble of building a website. Entry fee is £6, with £1 of that going to charity (rest is distributed in prizes - he doesn't take a penny out). More the merrier:

I have renewed this league, and will again be putting up a prize of an Art of Football t-shirt of your choice to the winner. Everyone welcome, the join link is:

In the spirit of celebrating a Man City lioness who managed to rustle up a QPR banner at her interview, I am going to suggest we relax the 'ban' on Chelsea players this term - this will allow you to pick Raheem Sterling and Todd Kane, should he make a surprising and emotional return to the Bridge.

Clive, sticky, please?

Good luck all!

LFW Fantasy Football winner announced
at 14:34 30 May 2022

Congratulations to FFL winner Ronan, and his team Queen Spark Rangers; heartbreak for Justin's The Claw, just 4 points behind in second.

Ronan, if you drop me a PM, I'll sort out your Art of Football t-shirt (though if you'd just like the £28, that would be fine).

The best-placed team not to include a Chelsea player and therefore moral victors: James' Tread Lightly in third.

A special Oi Mate, No! mention for Ian Carr's Kings Park Rangers - if your name is say Nick King (who he?) and you happen to support QPR, 'Kings Park Rangers' is a tired old pun which I've been using for years. How you've not gone with 'CarrPark Rangers'..?!

Some other great team names out there - Austin Powers, QPerthR, Queens Mark Rangers (see, Ian?!), GiveMeHopeJohansen - the attic wit (shouldn't that be 'Loft wit'?) for which LFW is rightly renowned is alive and kicking.

Thanks to everyone for competing, I hope you have kept an eye on results, I have tried not to flood the board with updates as not everyone is so keen.

See you all next term.

I have renewed the LFW FFL for this season, and will again be offering a top prize of an Art of Football T-shirt of your choice (though obviously you'll be having the Stan Bowles).

If you have played before, you will be rolled-over automatically, if you are new to the game, welcome - please use the code to enter:

873h1v

Could you all try just a little harder to beat reigning 2-time champion Frode this year, as he is starting to make us look like mugs...

As usual, Chelsea players are frowned-upon but not actually forbidden (I suppose the same ought to apply to Brentford. And Leeds. And... oh, just use your discretion).

***FRODE*** - please get in touch to claim your prize for last year (I will (AGAIN!) donate your prize money to charity if I do not hear from you).

Sticky for a week or two, please Clive?

FFL 20/21 ENTER NOW!
at 10:57 27 Aug 2020

I have renewed the LFW Classic league for another season. If you played last term, I think you will be auto-re-enrolled; if you would like to join these are the details you need:

https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/auto-join/w4yv39

Code: w4yv39

Apologies, I have been busy lately, but congratulations to FRODE** (again, I think?) for his triumph in 19/20 - Frode, if you would like to choose your t-shirt from:

https://art-of-football.com/collections/qpr

and drop me your details, I'll get your prize to you.

Same (fairly paltry) prize on offer this year (or the money, if you prefer) - could someone from the UK please try and win this time as the postage to Scandinavia is a tenner alone.

As usual, selecting Chelsea players is heavily frowned upon, but not actually forbidden (as an ex-banker, the moral low ground is my natural domain, just don't go crazy). Also, you know everyone else is going to pick Eze - dare to be different!

Good luck everyone.

Clive, might you make this a sticky, please?

** confession time, I forgot to check before the leagues got wiped, if you think you might have pipped Frode, please shout now! I will try and be a little more diligent this year.

I hope this is not in too bad taste, (apologies to anyone affected or bereaved), I present my Rangers Lockdown Eleven.

I struggled for a goalie, but I seem to remember Baraclough once taking the green shirt as an emergency keeper (or I may be losing it? Not the first time that’s been said…), so:

XI:
Ian BaraCough
Covid Bardsley
Gasper Gorkss
Danny Medics
Handgel Rangel
Antti-bodies Heinola
(no)Andrex Townsend
Dave St Thomas’s
Ilias Intensive-Chair
Paul Furlough
Gary PPE-enrice

Subs:
Emmanuel Science-Led-Esma
Jordon Mutch-Worse
Benjamin HandWalshe
Michael Petrasso-cial Distancing
sTaye Taiwo-metres-apart

Manager: Alec Stock-Piling

Any more?

Wigan Euston trains FREE 14 Mar
at 16:55 12 Mar 2020

I absolutely do have a cold, definitely a cold, however, better safe than sorry, I am staying home for a few days - no gym, over-50s badminton or BARNSLEY matches for me (or indeed training for my half-marathon in 10 days).

Going spare and non-refundable, I have return tickets for Sat 14th, Wigan to Euston, obviously timed to catch the match and get home again after. I got them by email, so easily transferred/downloaded.

I appreciate it's a slim chance that they would benefit anyone here, but offered FREE in the unlikely event. If you looked like a decent bloke, you could even have my season ticket for the game.

Atchoo. Almost certainly a cold.
