I was very impressed with England in general.

Caveats:

1) Their out ball was always the same: over the top for Gordon on the ageing Coleman and the lazy Doherty. It worked a treat. I would imagine that the tactics would have been more varied if they had to be i.e. if Ireland were better.

2) They eased off second half. Why? England are more of an ould enemy to Ireland than vice versa but Ireland are still arival. England should have put them to the sword. 4-0. 5-0. Subs scoring. No mercy.

Another one who agrees. I posted this tp a whatsapp group after the match:

"I agree about the lack of effort.

We started well, but as soon as they knocked a few balls over Coleman and Doherty for Gordon we retreated. I saw very little communication on the pitch thereafter, very little organising, very little pressing in numbers.

If the new manager was looking to see who his leaders will be he will surely be disappointed.

In short, being shít is one thing. Being soft is unforgivable."

But if they let him go they would surely have to pay him off? Even if it was 'by mutual consent' they'd surely have to pay a chunk, as we have had to in the past.

Me, too. Though ireland gave him far, far too much space.

Eze has a half a chance. I wonder if an Eze goal would net us some cash?

Well, I think it is too, Ted.

But if it's the oppo's National Anthem we shouldn't be booing it.

Ya,

Apparently he said to Givens:

"That wasn't much cop, what's ours like?"
"That was ours".

Ireland usually applaud oppo National Anthem. Very poor form today.

Gordon up against Coleman is some sort of cruelty.

Will Hallgrimsson sing the Irish National Anthem?

I only rememebered yesterday that this game was on.

Man, I used to love International footy. I'll tune in, though. Two new managers, so should be interesting.

Nourry on The London Sport Show

Agree completely, Dave.

Personally, I love that we're using data as a tool, but we must remember that Belk and his data team have been at the club for years. I hope that Nourry's arrival brings contacts and knowledge to add to and improve that, but we're only guessing on that front.

Nourry is a young man with no experience in the job we've given to him. I'm not getting carried away only to be let down later. I'm just going to hope that all goes well.

Also inspired by The Rest is History, I bought Tom Holland's 'Dominion' (The making of the Western Mind). The Introduction is the best thing I've ever read about humankind's desire to either believe in a deity or to convert their heroes into deities.

The problem is that the introduction was so inspiring, so all-encompassing, that I have little desire or motivation now to read the next 600 pages!
