Not sure about train prices being through the roof.
If you buy a Swansea-Cardiff and Cardiff-Bristol return it works out at £31.10 without a railcard.
If you are under 31, over 59, or travelling with somebody you are eligible for some kind of railcard giving a third off which can be bought with tesco clubcard vouchers.
