Train crash on 13:48 - Oct 22 with 908 views | felixstowe_jack | Makes you wonder how this happened on a single track line. One of the driver must has passed a red signal. When were the trains not fitted with modern equipment that automatically stops the train if it passes a red signal.

Train crash on 14:26 - Oct 22 with 891 views | union_jack | I’ve seen the Sky reports on this and their attempt at pronouncing the place names is pitiful. Surely, within an organisation as big as Sky there would be some Welsh employees who could give them an idea how to pronounce them.

Eye witness suggests there’s a passing point that the train usually stops at but for whatever reason whether the brakes failed or there was some other problem caused it to roll down the slope.

Well said. The BBC is professional in name only, its disrespect with bells on. Imagine how much better and safer our welsh railways would be with the stolen HS2 money. £4 billion is owed.

How much safer would Welsh roads be if only Drakeford had accepted the offer of the UK government to fully find the M4 relief road as part of the UK Infrastructure fund. Drakeford happily accepted UK taxpayers money, paid via the EU, to upgrade the heads of the valley road.

We could have used the money that we had to pay for HS2

Well they are safer. Good point. In September 2023, Wales became the first nation in the UK to introduce a default 20mph speed limit. The change applied to restricted roads only, usually in residential and built-up areas. The figures, published by the Welsh Government, show 78 people were killed or seriously injured on 20mph and 30mph roads between January and March 2024, compared to 101 in the first quarter of 2023 That included five fatalities on 20mph and 30mph roads, compared to 11 in the same period in 2023. The figures also show a 26% reduction for casualties of all severities. The Welsh government said the data on casualty figures were “encouraging and show things are moving in the right direction”.

From Newport to the other side of the King Charles Bridge and returning 20mph is the most you can do on most days. Take a bow Mark Drakeford!

The figures were much better during lockdown. That’s the way to go then.

When it was introduced HS2 was designated an England and Wales project. Northern Ireland and Scotland subsequently received additional funding to make up for the fact HS2 wasn’t improving the railway infrastructure in their countries. Even though HS2 didn’t benefit Wales, the government’s designation of the project as England and Wales meant we lost out on £4bn. Wales has 11% of the rail network, but between 2011and 2016 Wales received just 1% of the enhancement/ upgrading budget. Had we had some of that funding, Railtrack or Network rail could have upgraded our infrastructure and we’d have faster, safer services.
Train crash on 01:09 - Oct 24 with 441 views | Robbie | Inquiry will come out with excuses , leafs on the track , signal problems and so on as usual. Bottom line a paying customer to that business died as a result of awful management . Network Rail , TfW will all blame each other for this accident , both get away scot free . Question will be asked can a train driver want for £ 70k per annum to drive a potential death trap . Awful loss of life to an innocent too , carraige staff must be in shock as well .

It was an accident - these things happen, fortunately rarely. Leaves on the track can make them slippery, reduce friction and affect braking abilities I don't believe the track maintenance is the responsibility of TFW You bet they will try to pin some blame on the driver, it's how any management works
